well assuming its a fax/modem... and i think they all are these days...
All you need is some fax software. Win2000 comes with a very basic fax package, 98 and 95 will require you download something. Don't know about XP, or ME.

Even if you OS has Fax software already built in, you can still download another package from a place like tucows.

damn...I don't think it work :(
Ok, here is what happened...
I open up my resume word document (I am using office 2000 on win98), click file--->send to---->fax recipient...and then fax wizard take over...
first, it asks me "whether I want to fax with a cover sheet or not"...I choose "yes"...then it asks me "which fax program I want to use to send fax".....since microsoft fax is not available, I choose "a different fax program which is installed on this system" and the default program is my printer HP940C....I doubt this step very much, how could my printer be the fax program...but anyway, I went on, the next step is "who should receive this fax"...I type in the recipient's fax number...one question here, should I type in the area code if I live in the same area code? But anyway, I did type in the area code, click next....it ask me whether I have anything to add in the cover page....after that is done...I click "send fax now"....and immediately, my printer start working and print out my resume with that cover page I just created.....WHAT THE HECK?
Is this supposed to work like this? How would I know if the recipient has received my resume or not?

Sorry, for the long post...I am a little disoriented now...

Your Fax engine looks like a printer driver, so when you want to fax something, you change printers to the fax engine.

Your fax wizard failed you because you apparently don't have a fax engine setup.

If you have your modem cd-rom, check its contents. A lot of fax-modems will include software to setup a fax engine. Mine came with Bitware. You can also download some freeware or shareware fax utilities from www.download.com Also, Office2000 may have a fax program on its setup disk, I know my Outlook2000 came with it (included a Symantec version for faxing).

Ok, mine came with bitware too...but I didn't realize that software has anything to do with faxing...I am gonna check it out now
also, I think Word 2000 has a built-in fax program...because as I uninstall winfax pro automator a moment ago, the fax recipient is still there when I click file-->send to.....so maybe there is no need for me to download another fax program.
Anyway..I am gonna try your advice, also that Efax thing. Hopefully, everything will work out fine.
THANKS!

As far as I know, Word2000 does NOT have a built-in fax. It has fax templates, and you can fax from the program, but you have to send the fax to a fax engine (such as Bitware, WinFax, etc).

I like the Bitware program, you can send and receive with it. Its very similar to WinFax, or at least the last version of WinFax pro that I owned.

Outlook 2000 has built in fax sending. Or it does on my PC. Go to "actions" and "new fax message" should be 2nd option down.

I have used this successfully but I remember it being a bitch to get to work and it's too long ago for me to remember how to do it.
