I have a Asus A7V266-E motherboard with onboard RAID /ATA100 how do I enable DMA ? Do I need to? Well my Drives CDRW drive won't work please help. Thank you.
It should be enabled by default. However you can hit a keystroke and get into the Promise Bios when the computer is booting. There should be an option that tells you what DMA mode it is in.
For Windows 2000 (Probably XP as well) you go into device manager. Then look at the properties for each IDE channel. Go to advanced settings. Set it to DMA if possible, or whatever the option is. In Windows 98 I believe it is one of the drive settings. However, it has been so long since I used 98 I have forgotten.

Unfortunately those directions do not work if you are running HDD's off a controller card.
make sure that you put the drive as the secondary master on the IDE channel for a TDK. Also, if you are putting it on the RAID channel, make sure that it has been set to IDE mode(I had to do this with my 24x TDK burner on a Soyo dragon, Damn thing would never detect DMA correctly on the VIA IDE channels.)
