Setting aside the massive and pertinent question of why on earth this guy wants a murder one machine set up in his front yard, why not just get a beefy arc welder and seu up alternate wires with ground and power? It'll work once (wires will vaporize when that current goes through, most likely).

Since I'm not insane it's really a non-issue for me.

But planning ahead, if I wanted to do it I'd just get the 110V mains you guys have there and attach the live and neutral wires to the fence. In Europe we have 240V and most people come through that (after visiting the hospital), so 110V mains should be about right.

But hey, I would only do this 'cos I'm too cheap to buy kit designed to "warn" people to stay away. They should just learn to live and learn....well, that would be the plan at least.

DISCLAIMER: This method is designed to merely warn others. I take no responsibility in the loss of life that may be incurred by conducting the above. Any loss of life is a result of a misadventure of the deceased.

Buy a distribution transformer to get the really high, AC voltage . . . ..

Don't just connect the leads to make the fence, connect the "hot" lead to the fence . . . and ground the "cold" lead (don't confuse these).

Then when someone grounds the fence they get 14.4KV of power!!

That should be enough to kill them .. . make sure you have a big enough breaker before the transformer (Runt he transformer "backwards" from a 220V socket (dryers, ovens, etc)).

then piss on it.

You have to ballast it or it will trip the main CB. I've tripped 200A circuits with a 15kVA pole pig connected secondary to the mains with no ballast! It makes the voltage in the neighborhood sag low enough that you can see lights in the neighbors' house dim like a four slice toaster was plugged in!

Also, the energised part must be insulated (isolated) well enough to prevent arcing and excessive leakage. Wirestrapping alone is not enough as the locust posts will ignite in a short period of time!

Cheers!

You don't get shot by a stun gun. They require the user to physically contact the assailant. I've shocked myself with all sorts of makes and while it isn't necessarily nice, it's no self defense weapon IMO.

You're confusing stun guns with tasers. A taser is a device that shoots darts attached with wires at the assailant. These are far more effective as they do not require contact with the device and the electrodes are attached to the assailant further apart so the physiological effect is much greater.

Cheers!

Well, lots of cool ideas are flowing now! Thanks very much.

Much to the disappointment of those that don't know me; I'm not insane, psychotic or even anti-social. I just like my peace and quiet, despise tresspassers and want to feel safe in my own home.

Of course, legalities differ from state to state and even county to county w/i the same state, but here's my general idea.

Outer perimeter fence consisting of a socially-acceptable white picket fence or gate/posts or something. Small....5 feet tall. A normal fence. But with all the legal posting required to alert folks that this is private property. I.E. "No Soliciting" "No Hunting" "No Tresspassing" etc.

Then, about 20 feet inside the outer fence, we have THE FENCE, with the applicable legal sineage that said fence IS electrified AND bodily harm will result from touching it.

In front of the gate at the inner fence will be an intercom/videocamera system for visitors to ring in order to apply for admittance.

I would also like dogs inside the fence, but I'm not much of an animal guy and believe that if you can't properly love the animals, you shouldn't have them. I.E. I could never make "guard dogs" live/sleep outside b/c it's mean.

Too expensive to implement and maintain. Legally obtaining the quantities of each ingredient would be impossible for an average citizen, plus, the fumes and possible resulting environmental impacts could turn out to be very expensive.

No, I like the electrified fence idea.

See, all my life (except for a couple of years) I've been in apartments. And people can just march right up to your door and bang away until you answer...whiny neighbors, bored police officers, girl scouts, etc.

I want to completely remove the possibility of being BOTHERED. I thought about moving to the moon, but that just won't work.

ps
I'm not kidding.

Muaahhhahahaa!

But if you're in the US, stupid people could probably still sue ... and win =( Crappy courts.

First time some kid who can't read gets shocked by your uber fence, you'll get sued for millions.

It's not as difficult as it sounds, acquisition, environmental control, etc.

However, you may want to plant a firethorn hedge. Trust me these things will keep everything out!

Why not? They have icons for blind users!

Cheers!

I call BS..but if you ever do that you would be sued into the poor house, in fact, let me know where you live so I can live off you for the rest of my life. You know "beware of dog signs" ? They can be used against you in court if someone gets bitten. " See judge, he knew he had mean and dangerous dogs, just look at the signs he posted" I have a friend who is paying off a cool 1/4 million lawsuit because of a dog bite.

Electric fences go a little farther than 100 foot by the way. The bigger ones can catch grass on fire if it touches the wire. EDIT: Quick search showed one model that would still snap 1000V at 30 miles.
