how do you dispose of decomposable garbage?

I can't be the only one to have this problem... I've been doing a lot of cooking lately, specifically fish, which I buy, if not whole, with the skin still on.

I skin the fish, wrap up the skin inside the paper that the fish was originally in, and tie up the paper inside a plastic bag before throwing it out, but no matter what, my entire apartment ends up stinking within a day or two. my garbage can has a lid, and I guess that makes some small difference, but it's not enough.

it's annoying to have to take the garbage out every time I cook, since I'd otherwise only take the garbage out once/week... there's got to be a better solution, any suggestions?
 
Get a lid for your trashcan and better plastic bags. I just throw decomposable stuff into basic ziplock bags and I've never had any odor problems.
 
Garbage disposal or trash. Our trash is picked up 2 times weekly and is outside so odor is really not a concern.
 
I'll have to give ziplock bags a try.

outside odor is a little bit of a concern (not so much in the winter, but it's an issue in the summer, esp. with attracting bugs) because garbage is only picked up once/week and the trash cans are stored fairly close to one of my kitchen windows.
 
i throw most of it over the back fence.


in your situation, put it in a ziploc bag and then in the freezer. either that or get a composter.
