I think the little preview window in explorer is really slowing down my system. I'd like to disable it.

your talking about the explorer bar on the left hand side right?

I dont know if there is a way to "turn it off", that is unless someone knows of a registry entry or something that will do it.

or if your talking about the thumbnail preview for files/folder you can just change your view.

Yeah, I'm talking about the window on the bottom left that shows pictures, videos, etc.

I'm having a really difficult time with XP. Whenever I open up ACDSee it literally takes 5 mins and I think it may have something to do with XP reading all the files. I've gotten to the point where I'm right about to take off XP and put back on 2000. My wife's 950 Duron with 2000 is much faster than my Athlon XP 1700 with XP.

that's not normal at all, 2000 has the preivews as well and it should take about the same amout of time (maybe less actually since XP doesnt display as many things as 2K does).
do you have multiple volumes to test it on you could places files on a differant volume and see if it occurs there.
also could be unforseen OS issues, a nice format will fix a problem like this 99.9% of the time

I know other people who have major slow downs when using ACDSee.

For some reason I think MS must have purposely done something to f'kup ACDSee just like what they did to EZCD. I can't seem to get my legacy software to work well with XP.
