How do you disable Soundblaster DOS Emulation???

I've been getting random reboots and some disappointing performance from my computer and have heard this is a thing to do with sblive cards to get win2k to run better with games. Some before said you have to do this in device manager but I didn't notice anything regarding how to disable this there. Can someone give me a step-by-step plz? thanks

Go into your system through the control panel. Goto devices <where everything is listed> and it should be the 3rd item from the top on the list. It is called SoundBlaster 16 or Emulation or something like that. Expand that tree, there should be 3 things in that list. The Sb 16 Emulation is the last one on the list. Double click it to bring up the properties window, and click the &quot;disable hardware in this profile&quot; box. Now apply that, close that window, and there should be a red x by what you just disabled. Now you just re-boot if you have to, and go on your merry way. If you never use it, you can also delete all that crap in your autoexec.bat and not have to worry about it coming back. Hope this helps.

By your instructions, I believe you are pointing me to the &quot;Sound, video and game controllers&quot; sections in the device manager right? I don't have anything there called SoundBlaster 16 or Emulation. The 3rd item I have listed is Game Port for Creative SB Live! Was there some special drivers you had to install to get this b/c I installed everything that came with the installation cds and I d/l and installed the latest drivers off Creative's website.

Upon bootup , press F8.
Select &quot;Safe mode with command prompt&quot;
Go to &quot;c:\windows\system32\&quot; to rename ctmm32.dll to other extension like ctmm32.old
Restart computer
Reinstall &quot;Live!Ware 3.0 for Windows 2000&quot; package from Creative.
Go to &quot;c:\windows\system32\&quot; and delete ctmm32.old (optional)
