How do you define homophobia?

You said that gay people are abnormal and that their sexuality is routed in a mental health defect. That's homophobic. As we've established the "Phobe" as fear part has been redacted.

wrong.

tons of gay people become that way from childhood trauma. boy gets molested by uncle, boy suddenly has feelings for other boys. there are born gays, then there are created gays. deal with it

Wrong. your first sexual experience does dictate how you relate to sex for the rest of your life, that doesn't make gay people a mental disfunction or abnormal.

i didnt say all gay people

i said there are created gays, and born gays.

I don't see the relevence of this, this thread isn't an argument about nature vs nurture of a persons sexual orientation. You stated I was wrong when I said that

You said that gay people are abnormal and that their sexuality is routed in a mental health defect.

Nothing you have said has corrected me, or proven this point wrong.

and how can you claim that your first sexual experience dictates how you relate to sex for the rest of your life?

yeah it has, because having childhood trauma from being molested would be considered a mental health problem.

it could be a byproduct of one though

Theoretically. So could being straight. Or liking blondes, or hating chocolate. We've now established that mental health conditions effect your mind and personality. Brilliant.

I know this is dogma but can you provide any studies that would back this up? The VAST majority of gay people are just that, born gay. Studies have shown that being gay is not a human trait, it exists fairly broadly in the animal kingdom as a whole. There are gay bird, dogs, cats etc...

The problem with linking being gay to early childhood sexual trauma, in the absence of solid scientific proof, is that it very easily leads to sexual discrimination against homosexuals. If it's very possible that you are gay because you were mistreated as a young child then being gay in this case is something that "happened" to you, something that is unfortunate, and something to be pitied in this case. We have to be VERY careful with this kind of line of reasoning.

Just search google, there are lot's of articles on this subject.

I agree that it is unfortunate and something to be pitied also. But I would also say that lot's of gay people are born that way, not all are "made" gay from abuse.

I don't think it's a coincidence that so many gay men/women have had this abuse as children.

Gay Pride is more then just a parade, it is a sort of protest. It is the gay community comming out and letting the rest of society know that not only do they exist, but they have a right to be in public. It is an expression of freedom of speech.

Gay Pride in its original form was a protest to show they do exist and they do have rights.

There is a lot of homophobia and plain hatred towards 'holebis' (homosexual, lesbian, bisexual) still, especially among religious groups. The holebis among those groups are helped by people who show they are normal humans, eventhough they have a different sexuality. They are not helped by a bunch of guys jumping around in gold thongs while waving around pink boas.

A lot of gays, especially from those strictly religious communities, do fit in their own communities when it concerns believes, behavior and taste. They don't like that extremely flamboyant stuff.

This is something people really need to learn. Having an irrational fear of something is OK imo if you can admit it. I can understand why some people feel uncomfortable around gays (even though I have no problem with it myself), but having irrational hate is a completely different issue.

If someone has hydrophobia for example; OK they are afraid of water, but they don't say "Fuck water! Water is wrong an disgusting and should be banned. Anyone who drinks water, or swims in water is a disgusting pig!" No... I don't think so.

If someone has hydrophobia they probably have rabies. I recommend medical help, that or the old yeller approach.

As it is with most any person or persons someone doesn’t understand, homophobia is believing in a stereotype. A lot of people, believe it or not, still do not know one gay person.
Some wives think they will threaten their marriage. What does that tell you about their marriages?
Some parents believe gays are after the kids. There are a lot of gay kids from totally fundamental religious households. What does that tell you about fundamentalist moms and dads?
I know many fathers of gay children feel this stigma of sorts, that others will wonder if that father had something to do with turning the kid gay. That is why many fathers disown gay children. That fear of association. Even if that involves their own flesh and blood gay child.

Homophobia is not unlike any other race or gender phobia.
It is that "unknown" of another person. That fear that often boils up into pure hate.

In today’s world, republicans have elevated and taken that fear of the unknown to new heights.
And YES, I say and point at republicans as a singular sector, since we do not see this coming from the left or the democrats.
At least not in the massive harmony of unanimity we see it coming from the conservative right sector.

Do right wing republican politicians actually believe in this homophobia wagon train they ride upon? ... NO!
Do republicans believe in the benefit they will gain for winning elections... YES!

There are still large numbers of very isolated people in America, culturally isolated people, that are easily fooled when homophobia is exploited. Republicans know that means votes. Republicans play up to that ignorance very well. They have the game play down pat.
So they use and abuse the ignorance of that culturally isolated segment of the voting public. It has worked very well for them. That is why they will forever continue until they no longer see any payoff. Until their game is finally exposed.

Homophobia is Oppression of gays.

Oppressive things include - not entitled to benefits hetros are, rolling a queer in the ally, discriminating against them for employment, bullying, etc.

Least thats my definition. I personally have an aversion to it but would not support oppressing them.

LOL I only know one gay person and he is republican.

That is the most retarded thing I've ever heard.

Umm, you need to check your retardphobia at the door. People who constantly use the word "retarded" to describe someone or something as stupid is just insulting to mentally challenged people and just shows their own insecurity with their own intellect. People that use the word "retarded" are probably closeted retards themselves...wait...what?

Intentional irony? I will let you decide.
