How do you deal with a 2nd time RMA?

Okay, so I got a EVGA 6600gt a while back that had memory problems. Sent it back and had to pay shipping both ways.

Got my new one on friday and its even worse. It freezes whenever you try to do anything, even downclock the clock frequencies.

Basically I do not want to regular RMA it again and pay shipping both ways again because for teh money i spent on all that, I could have gotten a x800xl.

I know im gonna have to call them because all emails will say is try this or try that. I don't really know what to say though. I am not a very persuasive person. I know EVGA is usually a pretty good company, so they might be able to do something for me.

As of now, i want my money back and get a x800xl, but I know the manufactuer probably cant do that. I don't want to rma it again and take my chances with another 6600gt. a 6800gt would be nice ;)

So basically, what should I say when i call them? How likely is it that they can give me a differnt card and pay shipping ?

thanks ATOT

Call them and explain what is going on. Stand your ground and don't let them push you around, and more than likely you can get whatever you want within reason.

2 bad ones in a row? it sounds like something else is wrong with your sys.. but I could be wrong.

That's what I was thinking, it is very rare to get an RMA board back that doesn't work. You have VERY BAD luck, getting two cards that don't work.

that's kind of what i was thinking....

Thats why I am so angry! Nothings really wrong, just evga has such a bad cooling scheme that the memory is very easy to overheat.

Nothing is wrong in my system because it does 2d apps fine like surf the web and get into windows.

You're probably not wrong.

I'll go through 100's of eVGA products and not get one bad one. Here's two in a row? No.

Its their ram overheating I think. I know, I reasearched and that why I got an EVGA one because they are supposed to be of very good quality.

I know that it is really unlikely, maybe >1%, but I think I am that 1%. If you want to know the specific problem, I posted it on their fourms here. Text

eVga will exchange it, even though there's probably nothing wrong with it.

I've dealt with their RMA dept before and it was pretty smooth.

Maybe if you get a third card and it still doesn't work you'll consider that the problem is the motherboard or your power supply. :D

Yeah, If a third one dosne work im throwing out my system :D

I think my mobo and PSU should be good, because i have a DFI ultra d and a fortron blue storm 500.

I think it was something burning out on the card because when I first booted, I got artifacts all over and the computer shut off. When I tried to boot again it got into windows and everything looked fine besides that fact that it couldnt do 3d.

do you think they will pay for this and the previous times shipping?

Wow! I'll have what you're having. You think that a particular product won't fail because it's a certain brand?

So a DFI can't be bad because it's a DFI and an FSP can't be bad because it's an FSP, but an eVGA can be bad even though it's an eVGA?

No.. They're not going to pay for shipping to them. They will pay for shipping back to you, though.

No, Its just that everything thing else works fine. If something is really bad, like the PSU has bad power, then I dont thing Prime 95 would go fine overnight. How would I be able to tell if I had a bad mobo? I think it should be good because 2d tasks and everything works fine.

really, evga pays shipping back to you? they made me pay on the last one.

Everything would work fine. Then you ask for just a little more 12V than what's available and CRASH.

Two possibilities here: The 12V of the PSU is weak and can't provide the overage required or... the board can't supply the voltage to the video card through it's slot.
