rub olive oil on both sides of the steak.
I put a dry pan on a burner on high heat.
When the pan is really hot, I drop in the steak for 30 seconds, then flip it for 30 seconds on the other side.
Then, I put the pan and steak into a oven that has been pre-heated to 500F.
After 2 mins, I flip the steak, and do another 2 mins.

Folks seem interested in this, and this is how I cook my steaks.
It is a technique known as searing steak lovers should know, as the results are fabulous.

Here is a video demo:

I love to bbq, and it must be pink.

I have a friend, showed me to make a steak "Brazilian Style". Basically we bought a box of rocksalt (the stuff used to make ice cream) and took some unseasoned steaks, put the steaks on the grill and just piled the rocksalt HIGH on there. Then we flipped the steaks and piled the rocksalt HIGH on the other side and let it cook. I could tell that the juices were really kept in there and it made for a really juicy steak. It wasn't as salty as I thought it would be except for the more than occasional un-scrapped-off-rocksalt. I'm not planning to do it again, btw.

Grill or nothing. Medium rare with Lawrey's Seasoning Salt and just a little sliver of butter(added before cooking). Add fresh ground pepper to taste.

I put garlic salt, pepper, and lots of LKK oyster sauce on it, then I put it in the frying pan with some canned mushrooms.

The other way I do it is to marinate with salt, pepper, soy sauce, and rum. Cook it on the George Foreman grill. All the juice and stuff that collects in that tray at the bottom, I just take it and pour it right back on. That way I don't lose any of the grease, cook very efficiently.

I fix them two different ways

Rub some preferred seasoning on the steak, heat grill up to HOT!!!, grill for about 45sec -1 minutea side

Heat up Pan, put about 2 tblspoons butter to melt, add a "bit" of garlic (preferably fresh minced, but powder will do in a pinch) , Season steak with Salt & Pepper, Add steak to pan when garlic is starting to brown nicely- About a 1-1 1/2 minute to a side. Remove steak, add whole package of mushrooms, lower heat to medium (you may have toadd a little more butter). Fry mushrooms till they have absorbed the "fluids", add either 1 tablespoon Kikoman Soy sauce or Worstershire and about 1/4 cup of water. Boil the water off. Serve along side or on top of Steak!

Sort of the same way as a few others:

A cajun seasoning rub (use a lot & rub it on both sides, it's just cajun seasoning, when you put it on meat it's called a "rub")

Sear it on the grill for a few minutes on both sides (burns off most of the rub)

Pop it in the oven for 11-20 min @ 500 degrees.

This gives it a great flavor, the rub, grilled taste & cooks it without burning the outside to a crisp.

<< Unless you're from the south, and are married to a relative, you do NOT fry a steak. >>

Wow, I had no idea we were so stupid down here.

Do you speak French?

Call Le Cordon Bleu
8 rue Léon Delhomme,
75015 Paris, FRANCE

Tel: +33 (0) 1 53 68 22 50

Ask them how they cook a steak, and they will tell you the same thing I said.
>>

And you assume that the French are the last word in cooking a steak? Please! Those would-be-Germans-if-not-for-Uncle-Sam-in-WWII are too worried about eating frogs and snails. I'll turn to an American chef for cooking my steak, thank you.
Sheesh, another American lemming caught up in the cache of anything French.

For a quick steak on the good ole generic GF grill:

1. Season very lightly with salt, black pepper, red pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

2. Top with Montreal steak seasoning.

3. Grill on each side for 2 minutes.

On my grill, this makes a great, rare steak.

I have never heard anyone say, "I'm in the mood for a great steak tonight. Let's go to that French restaurant.
Bearnaise sauce? That crap doesn't have a place on the table in a real steak house.

I like mine rare to medium-rare, grilled, with garlic slivers pushed in prior to grilling. Add to that whatever steak sauce is handy, and it works for me.

hey there fellow San Diegan...
if you are ever in San Antonio TX go downtown and there is this restaurant Tierra del Fuego. they cook all their meat like that. big ass skewers of rib eye and stuff. plus it's served by walkabout waiters. they just walk around with huge hunks of meat and these skewers and if you want some you just gesture to him and he walks over and starts piling on yer plate til you say stop. it's kinda expensive but it is all you can eat...i swear i must have eaten a whole cow when i went there.

btw, you been to Rainwater's on Kettner Blvd? voted in the top 20 for independent steakhouses in the USA for the last 9 years by Restaurant magazine. :D

If you can't grill use a cast iron pan. Put it on medium heatfor about 10 minutes. Then put enough oil to cost the pan. Use an oil with a high smoking point, like peanut (no it doesn't flavor the meat) Take your steak (like mine with just fresh ground pepper and salt) and put it in the pan. DONT TOUCH IT! Let it cook for a few to several minutes depending on thickness, and then turn it once. AGAIN DONT TOUCH IT (yeah im yelling). Leaving it undisturbed allows the formation of that yummy crust. After the steak is done remove it and then add chopped shallots. Cook a few minutes. Then take some red wine and deglaze the pan (I assume you know what that is) allow the sauce to cook till it thickens and remove it from the heat. Add a few small pieces of butter to finish the sauce and Yummy!!!

You guys make me laugh ... Grill? Come on, that's not how a real man eats his steak. I just get a knife, run out to the moo-moo farm, and slice a big, juicy piece from a nice cow. I just eat it on the spot, with all of its natural flavors.

Sure, this wastes moo-moos, but it tastes great.

I like mine grilled or blackened, and always well done. I don't care if people like to make fun of me fo that cause i like all my lethal bacteria dead.

Carbo: do you have to be such a fscking ass? So what if someone thinks differently? Taste is a very subjective thing, there is no right or wrong. Is there some reason you are such an authority on the one and only proper way to cook a steak, or is this just another case of the pigheaded american acting like his way is the only way?
