How do you cook your oatmeal?

Love my oatmeal in the morning.

I like my oatmeal dry with honey, cinnamon and blueberries. I just add a little bit of water to cook it. I even like to sprinkle uncooked oats on top of my oatmeal to give it a nice chewy flavor!

Yummy! :awe:

I'm lazy and just go with Strawberries and Cream. However, I do cook with old fashioned oats a lot. Steal-cuts oats are just too chewy for me. I broke my jaw a few years ago stuff that chewy is actually painful for me to eat.

Add water. Microwave. Yes, when I get a nice oatmeal with brown sugar, fruit, raisins and nuts at a restaurant, it's much better.

If you want to try something different with your oats, try savory flavors. I'll do water, worcestershire/bouillon or some other salty base, peanut butter, and Tabasco, with some variations. It's pretty good on occasion, especially since I don't go for sweet stuff too often.

Old fashioned oats only in this house...and I want them "chewy," not soft and over-cooked. (Steel cut are good too)

Then, add milk and sugar.

I can't stand "doctoring" up oatmeal with brown sugar, honey, or any fruit.

If I make steel cut oats, I cook them down with butter and salt only. With rolled oats, I use quick oats or regular oats, but make them as I would instant. Just pour boiling water on them. I like those with butter and brown sugar.

Steel cut, add slightly less water, maybe 20% less, and into the crockpot for half hour to hour of simmer, then let it cool some. I usually have a bowl right away, but the bulk I put in snaplid plastic containers and put in the fridge.

Prep to eat, add missing fluid in 2% milk, zap in microwave, stir, add salt and whatever sweetening agent, Stevia, Splenda, most often some kind of fruity or flavored granola.

Done right the steel cut isn't so much chewy as it is sort of plump and grape like, not glue like.

Old fashioned or Irish oats cooked slightly less water.

When done add pinch of butter, a little sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and milk

1/2 cup of oats, 2/3 cup water, 90 seconds in microwave on high, let set for 5 minutes. add 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, a little butter, salt, maybe some raisins.

I like chewy oatmeal, not soupy. I go with old fashioned oats and a little salt and I pour piping hot water in the bowl, cover it, and let sit for a minute or two until the water is all absorbed and the oats have expanded/popped/whatever they do. Then I top with brown sugar.

I eat oatmeal every day.

I read somewhere that you can load up a jar with water and old fashioned oats, and whatever flavors you want.

Put the lid on the jar, refrigerate overnight, and it will be ready to eat in the morning. Plus it's in a jar and portable.

I've been meaning to try this.

Has anyone used this method?

I like my oatmeal lumpy!

I don't eat oatmeal very often because of the carb count, but when I do I go all out 🙂

I like steel cut oats and I use 1/2 water, 1/2 milk and a bit of salt, and bring it to a boil in a heavy pot, then cook the oats for about 30 minutes.

While that's cooking I'll make a glaze sauce out of apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon, and heavy cream.

Throw in some raisins, cranberries, and maybe some walnuts and cover with the glaze...oooooo man 🙂

I eat plain oatmeal every workday with hot water from the coffee maker and 10 minutes later it is ready to eat. I like it on the runny side.

Also no quick oats because i use a paper coffee cup and half the oats are dry no matter how much water i use. The oats don't mix with the water so old fashioned oats only.

We have steel cut oats at home but it takes 30 minutes to cook on the stove top so we only cooked them once so far.

Instant, in a bowl with water, in the microwave.

I'll sometimes use one flavored packet + one plain, or two flavored. For two plain I'll add maple syrup or raw sugar, and some walnuts if I have any.
