How do you clear up a .pdf?

I remember there was someone to clear up a .pdf, either through the distiller or through something else.

I have a scanned few pages from a book in PDF form, but its hardly readable. I know there is a way to subsitute fonts or whatever and have acrobat really clean it up.

ANyone know what im talkin about?
 
I think you would be better off scanning text with some OCR(optical character recognition) software, then there is no fuzzy text.
