How do you clear the history that affects the display of the most recently used items in programs and in favorites both, specifically in Win2K.

This is a point of curiosity and not one of crisis.

First off, personalized menus is the function that hides stuff you don't use much. Right click on the taskbar, and choose properties, and uncheck "Use Personalized Menus" to disable that.
For the documents list, go over to the advanced tab, and choose the clear button.
 
Thanks for the reply, I'm aware of it's design. The OS monitors what is more often used and displays those items in the programs menu and the favorites menu when you have "personalized" menus checked under the taskbar settings. Where does it store what it's monitoring?
I'm wanting to know specifically how to clear that history that it monitors and start out fresh, or even if there is a way to do that and where in the registry one might find that. Turning this feature on and off and/or booting doesn't clear it. And clearing the recently accessed documents has nothing to do with it at all.
ie. to go back to the fresh slate state of a clean install regarding personalized menu history. Is it an index or data file that is growing larger and larger as it monitors usage with the passage of time? Is it related to the comments "last used on ..." and "rarely or frequently used" next to the list of programs in the add/remove programs in the control panel applet?
