last month i went through a swarm of some kind of bug. it sounded like rain. well the next morning they were dry and crusty so bad that windex would not touch it. so i broke out a bottle of Dawn dishsoap and had my windshield sparkling clean in 4 minutes.

newspaper and invisible glass for me

There's something about the paper that composes newspaper that makes it good for cleaning glass, i'm not sure how the exact science works, but i know there is a reason. Just make sure the newspaper itself isn't dirty ;)

I use Eagle1 Glass cleaner, safe on window tint.. with a microfiber towl (not waffleweave). No streaks, keeps my tint black instead of blue woot.

On the actual glass itself, I find using a cleaner wax like Meguiar's and a buffer will truly clean the glass and leaves it slick enough for the wipers to work properly.

I only do that once a year or so, depending on the weather. Takes out the water spots and road grime that builds up over the course of a year.

For the inside where the windows are tinted I use Novus plastic cleaners. Made for acrylic and other clear plastics, works excellent on tint.

If the glass is pretty clean overall then Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft, lint-free rag. Some recommend Newspaper but I have never tried that.

If it's grime, bugs and other gunk then Bon Ami applied liberally with water.
I have done this on every vehicle I have owned and quite a few others. It will not scratch your glass and it removes everything.

As a matter of fact BMW issued a service bulletin recommending this.

BMW&BonAmi

Note: Bon Ami doesn't really recommend this:
BonAmisOfficialStatement
We saw on the internet, in auto brochures or other product information that Bon Ami® should be used to clean windshields and the Bon Ami® product label advises otherwise. Why?
Many auto enthusiasts have had success using our Bon Ami® Cleaning Powder and continue to recommend our product, however, at this time we cannot recommend using Bon Ami® Cleaning Powder for auto glass. We can and do recommend Bon Ami® Glass & Surface Cleaner, which is sold in an aerosol.

After that I always try to use RainX. Recently I drove from CO to DC with stops only for gas, food and dog walks. I was lazy and only put RainX on the driver's side of the winshield before I left. At the first stop in Kansas somewhere, I could barely see out of the passenger side windshield. The driver's side while not spotless was about 90% cleaner an dhte wipers could actually do their job.

If you apply RainX correctly then most of the time you don't even need your wipers.
When you apply it incorrectly then it does make things worse.

I use Invisible Glass. This isn't a direct link for the product , but it'll give you an idea what it is. It works great and lots of detailers use this as well.

Why not use regular windshield wiper fluid that you use in the car?

Microfiber and stoner invisible glass. If the invisible glass isnt' good enough for you, then try this stuff.. If the (outside) windshield is very dirty, I'd first clean it with a terry cotton towel then follow up with a microfiber and invisi glass.

Tip: clean the outside vertically and the inside horizontally, that way you can tell if the streaks are on the inside or outside. Also, if your wiper are streaking and you think its a dirty windshield, you may be right, but your wipers may be dirty and worn out as well.

Yep. My wipers would always skip/chatter horribly across the windshield a couple weeks after applying RainX.

Yeah I already posted the same link on the first page.

I use newspaper also, except don't like how it gets black on my hands and interior A-pillars & dash.
Microfiber is too expensive to waste on my glass. :)

you must be smokin some crack.. I love rainx... i applied it to all the windows :) Granted, only once, i just did the front and back after that. but use it in conjunction w/ the rainx washer fluid and it works wonders. given it's a pain to apply... but whatever :)

and invisible glass gets my vote here w/ newspaper. i need to go buy some actually.

I suggest a can of flat black spraypaint.

I don't. I wait for it to rain. I'll bet you fvckers wash the bugs out of your grille, too.
