for crt NOTHING works better then this:

Get 2 paper towels, crumble 1 into a ball and hold it in running water for 5 seconds or so, then squeeze it to get the excess water out, then wipe off the moniter with small amount of force, this will get it really clean, then use the other paper towel to dry it, and your done.

Dont waste money on glass cleaner and such when water does the same thing, for crts anyway, dont know about lcds.

Well, DON'T use anything but a damp fine cloth. NO glass cleaner. Ammonia can take of the coating.

My CRT gets streak marks if I use water. I use a polishing cloth for glasses and go over it a few times.

For my CRTs:
The paper towel trick. Works really well :D. Just use 2, like above, wet one and use one to dry off. Cleans it perfectly. I think it works as well as the cleaning solutions and other stuff they sell.

paper towel that is moistened (not dripping wet), wipe dry.

do not use any "glass cleaner" products...only water.

here is what dell recommends for their 2001fp lcd monitor (which i use)

link
"To clean your antistatic screen, lightly dampen a soft, clean cloth with water..."

easy steps to cleaning your monitor. Take right hand grab right side of shirt. Then take left hand grab left side of shirt. Stretch shirt to the top of your monitor. Proceed to pull down and you've successfully cleaned your monitor.
