How do you clean your ears?

My friend recently had two ear infections from using qtips. His doctor said to not use them at all.

How the heck else are you supposed to clean the buildup in there? Towels wont exactly reach as far as a qtip...

You aren't supposed to use cotton swabs because they push a significant amount of ear wax farther back into the ear canal.

I use swabs to dry/clean the outer area of my ear. Every once in a great while, I'll get some peroxide and a syringe to clean my ear.

I use q-tips. They weren't meant to be used in your ears though. Theres even a little disclaimer on the boxes telling you not to put it in your ear. They're just so damn convenient!

Girls go through them like nothing for makeup though.

I have a metal stick with a small "scoop" on the end of it. Have to be real careful but it works great. You're supposed to leave a little bit of wax/oil in there though... helps prevent infection I hear.

I have the same thing too! Used it about every month...no problems so far

Ditto, except I have someone else to do it.

definitely. but i never used it before

My thing is that if I dont go in far enough I find gobs of wax just randomely falling to the bottom of my ear throughout the day. Which is nasty...

I use Q-Tips every day after i get out of the shower, the wax is almost liquid at that point and Q-tips work fine, i push them in far and i havent had any probs in 10 years of doing that

yes i had my hearing tested last year and its well above average

Mix together hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol. Get a squeeze bulb and put that suff in your ear. Then squeeze some warm water in there to flush it all out.

There is also this method where you put a candle in your ear. Seriously. You can get them at health food stores.

roll up some tissue paper, insert, and twist. very gentle and no risk of breaking drum when some buffoon bumps into you.😉

I use qtips and I'm diggin' for China when I go in there, which I do once or twice daily (ie. after every shower). Maybe I just have particularly wide ear canals or something, but I've never had any kind of blockage or problems. Might just be because I do it after showers (when I go in there with soap as deep as a washcloth will go) and the wax is all soft & gooey though. Either way, what works for evolution doesn't necessarily work for social interaction and I'll continue till there's a problem, if ever.

I've always used q-tips.

I am just very careful not to push them in too far.

me too! for like 25 years, and no problems. YOu know when you have gone too far!

I've been using q-tips since the day I was born, and that's a bunch of pansy sh*t when people tell you not to stick them in your ears. I put them in a little bit and swirl it around in there and I'm smart enough to not poke my brain with them. I've never had an ear problem...unless there's water in it. But then i just use q-tips to get it out.
