How do you catalog your company's photos?

The company I work for has a construction branch that are constantly having high quality photos made of their locations and I was wondering what ways others catalog their cd-r/dvd-r's for keeping track of them. Do you dump them onto a HDD or use some sort of check out system?

At the moment we have an oversized shoes box with separators by letter. What do you do?

Are you dealing with just print, just electronic, or a combination of both? What is the rough size of the collection (in both items and linear feet)?

Edit: PM me if you want to talk on the phone or something, this might be easier to do with live chat.

For digital files, I have a designated folder on my HDD. Photos are separated into folders by date and/or subject. If I decide to back up the files to DVD or CD, it makes it easy because I can just put a certain number of folders on the disc and label the disc with a date range (ex: 1/1/09 - 3/1/09). I keep a backup of the entire photo folder on an external drive, just in case.

For print stuff, I keep things in plain black binders, and label them using labels I print out at home. I put the stuff in clear plastic sheets to protect and keep everything safe.

We have moved to all digital files for our construction projects. We then electronically file the photos by project number and date.

Folder structure

Project Year
------> Project Number
-------------> Pictures
------------------> Date

If a project spans more than one year, the Project Number folder will be under the start year, and a shortcut folder will be in the next year(s) until the project is complete.
