Is it:

Hourly Wage x Hours Worked per week x four weeks x twelve months
example:
20x40x4x12=38,400

or is it:

Hourly Wage x Hours Worked per week x 52 weeks
example:
20x40x52=41,600

I've seen it done both ways. So which is it?

Assume 50 work weeks per year.

Hourly rate x 40hrs/week x 50 weeks/year.

(Hourly wage x 80 hours) x 26 weeks = Still not enough money!

Edit: forgot the brackets.

I wait till the end of the year and look on my last paycheck, It's labeled either YTD Net Pay or YTD Gross Pay.

Did you know the regular work week in France is only 1459hrs per year? (Source: Business Week)

it should be 52 weeks.

edit:

or at least 50. If you get paid for 48 weeks, you're hopefully taking 4 weeks off unpaid plus vacation.

Subtract (hourly rate * 8) for each one? Luckily we don't have any of those were I work.

What about unpaid holidays?

That is the standard formula for calculating yearly salary.

Real jobs pay holiday pay for holidays.

..Ouch, just because you don't get full benifits doesn't mean you can't earn a lot of money (consulting, etc), and furthermore, just because you don't make a lot or have great benifits, doesn't make it not a REAL job. ....Right?

you can do weekly x 4.3325 x 12, that's what a bank does usually....

there are many ways that are all correct depending on what you want to show, gross/net, monthly, yearly, daily, etc.

The only real way is what the W2 shows at the end of the year :)

Consulting wouldn't qualify as a REAL job in this case. The only real way to figure out a yearly salary if you are consulting is estimation.

I'm in consulting and I think my job qualifies as a real job.

I work for a Big Four Professional Services firm, though...... so i'm not on my own

That's how I do it if I just want to get a basic idea. Its incredible how a low hourly wage actually works out to be a very decent salary.
