How do you calculate 3 = 1.09^x

All logs can be computed from the natural log dumbass. Actually from any log base, but mostly natural log since it's more common. Engineers are the main users of log base 10.

log base n of x = ln(x) / ln(n)

uhh..it doesn't matter?

Ya, that's always confused me. I almost never used 'log' for algebra or equation manipulation in college unless a graph was using a base 10 scale.

It doesn't matter. You could take the logarithm of base 7 if you wanted to and you'll still get the same answer. ln(x) and log(x) are the easiest choices to work with though because you have buttons for them on your calculator.
