So my aunt is looking for a car and since she knows nothing about cars, I offered to look at cars for her. She lives in Dallas and I live near Houston. I plan to buy the car this week and I won't be able to drive it to her for another couple of weeks. My insurance company doesn't offer insurance for a car I'm not titled to, so I don't know what's going on... She doesn't want to pay tax twice obviously. Any ideas?

Send her the signed title and have her title/register/insure the car? Then have her send you back the paper work and drive it to her?

You might be able to gift the car. That's how it works here when it comes to family members. No double dip on taxes. I can't speak for Texas though.

When I bought my daughter's car, I paid cash and put the title in her name. I'd wait until just before you see your aunt and buy one up in Dallas instead of Houston. And do check Craig's List, that's where I found my daughter's car for $600.
