how do you boot into graphics mode temporarily?

i foolishly made it so that in redhat 7.2, i booted into text mode (the ultimate goal) but for now, i need graphical mode to configure a few things.

namely giantdisc, all the little interface modules, and everything else that i aint got yet. this is gonna be a bear

I don't see a need to change the runlevel - why not just startx from the command prompt until you've got things set up? If you really must change the default runlevel, change the "initdefault" line in /etc/inittab.

how you do this startx?

i tried changing the default, and it didnt work very well.

(caused my trinitron to shut off, made my multisync almost unreadable)


i had to use the multisync to go back into emacs and edit the file so i could boot back into text mode. how can i optimize the settings for the monitor?

oy... if i dont get this working, i'll go back to the devil of windows and just use palmamp.


(only reason why i tried this way was that i didnt think palmamp allowed for playlists....)

Check the values for HorizSync, VertSync, Display->Modes, etc. in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.

You could just re-run xf86config and make sure you enter all the correct information.

To start X: $ startx
