How do you backup your data?

That's what I am doing now. I just have the really irreplacable stuff also on a flash drive.

For my new machine I am debating between a second drive for storage/backup, or getting an external drive I can toss in the safe.

Get something that is connected all the time, either a external drive or NAS setup. Either use the bundled software for the retail drives or download the free SyncBack http://www.2brightsparks.com/

It's automatic, set and forget.... always have a recent backup.

Burn the most valueable of data to DVD and put in safe, updating every so often.

backup? however backs up? i don't have any extremely important stuff. the way i do it is with DVD+RW's for the few things i need. too bad that there aren't any DVD+RW DL's yet. for most of my stuff, i just have seperate partitions for my stuff.

I back up my stuff to a seperate HD in a vantec hard drive container plugged into a USB in the back.
I just copy and paste and then turn it off. When It get too full I write it to a DVD and start saving again. 🙂

To a family server, but if I screw up a partition or something I still have my data on a seperate HD in the computer.

Edit: But if you just want to back up some family pictures and/or a fairly small music library then DVDs will do.

DVDs stored separated from my machine so fire,theft, etc. not likely to destroy both copies.

I use DVD's mostly but some important stuff I keep on both my PC's and other stuff I keep on a Jumpdrive.

Hi, I backup drivers and such to a Roxio Drag to Disk CD (formerly called Direct CD). Really sensitive stuff or whole system goes to an external HD on #1 machine accessible to #2 and anything on the work bench over the LAN.
