That's what voicemail is for.

Yep, I've gotten over the Pavla's dog response to a ringing phone.

So when your phone rings, you no longer salivate and try to eat it? That's progress everyone can be proud of.

Hello <name> speaking...

I would like to ask a question myself... what if someone messages you that they're about to call... then the phone rings... do you actually say the usual hello or do you act like you knew they were calling?

At my old jobs...

Main line: "Hello, <company name>."

My phone, if ever, "Hello? Yes, this is <name>."

"Firstname, lastname!" Unless I can decide fast who is calling, then hi or hey, including certain bosses.

If it was an outside person telling me they would call/call back, I still say "firstname lastname", inside calls get "Hi, name".

Goodmorning/-afternoon, <company name>, <my name> speaking.

I always add the greeting at the start in case people aren't paying attention to the phone, that way they have a moment to refocus and will at least hear the company name.
