I don't like wearing out my decade old volume knob on my speakers.

So it's done on software level via hardware up/down buttons on my keyboard.

The YouTube volume slider isn't "properly implemented?" 😕

I'd say so, yeah. You can still adjust the volume of the browser window in which the youtube video is playing, after all. If it were properly implemented, then the two would be one and the same and get mixed only at the OS level.

But then media plugins are a bit of an ugly design anyway. Having a program within a program, just to perform a primary operation of the first program is a bit ridiculous, and I can only hope that HTML5 will fix that.

I adjust it through my amplifier, be it my headphone amplifier or speaker amp. Both equipped with vacuum tubes from 1940s made in USA but with Murano Italy glass.

At home?? Hardware - digital out (via U S B ) to my DAC. Preamp for switching and volume control.

And there is no more "OS-control" and "software control" if the volume control is properly implemented. Since Vista, OS volume control is just another software control.
Still, I use the sliders that are part of the OS interface, to level out different applications, so I also chose OS.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

Either way, it looks like the OS level adjustments are most popular.
