got a new phone after 5 years...and I am trying to figure out how to add custom .mp3's for ringtones...

I have gotten as far as adding a .mp3 file and adding it to the "ringtones" playlist

However the custom mp3 isn't showing up in the selection list...

Am I going at it wrong?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

Carrier? How'd you put the file on the phone?

I have an extra mini-usb cable and I got the software from a friend whom has a similar Motorola phone...

I can connect the phone to the PC just fine, I can browse the directory structure just fine...

I can add the music (mp3's, wav's) just fine...

I can't add the files as a ring tone which I am not 100% I can do anyways so maybe that is my problem...

I spoke with two different people at two different stores

The first one didn't know dick about phones which was great

The second said it was against the law to put custom ring tones on phones as it violated some FCC law...I just hung up on that one...

I will have to try back tomorrow to see if there is any way to do it

Still not enough information.

You didn't tell me what carrier you have. Is it an unlocked phone? Did you get it at a discount from your carrier? Are your ringtones on the memory card, or on the phone's internal memory?

Edit: Actually, save yourself some trouble by emailing it to your phone using "yourphonenumber@carrier.com" as the email address, then when you get it on the phone (you'll get it as an MMS message) use the options menu to "Save As Ringtone".

Here is how you do it:

From this link:

Can I use a downloaded or transferred song as a ringtone?

Answer

You phone will allow you to use downloaded or transferred music as ringtones. The phone will support ringtones in MP3 or .wav formats. The song will have to be located on your phone, not your memory card.

To move a song from a memory card, and apply as a ringtone:

* Press the Center Select Key
* Scroll to and Select Media Gallery
* Scroll to and Select Sounds
* Press Options
* Scroll to and Select Switch Storage Device
* Scroll to and Select Memory Card
* Scroll to desired file
* Press Options
* Scroll to and Select Copy to Phone

Once the copy is complete:

* Press the Center Select Key
* Scroll to and Select Media Gallery
* Scroll to and Select Sounds
* If necessary, press Options
* Select Switch to Storage Device
* Select Phone
* Scroll to the desired file
* Press Options
* Scroll to and Select Assign as Ringtone
