How do you activate a clean Vista upgrade install?

I purchased Windows XP last year from Newegg and it came with an Upgrade Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I formatted my computer to wipe my entire hard drive and installed Vista Home Premium yesterday. I didn't feel like installing Windows XP then installing Vista over top. I wanted to do a clean install. I did not enter the Vista key during installation or activate anything because I read that you can do a clean install with a Vista upgrade disc at several websites like,

http://thevistaforums.com/inde...om=ineo&showarticle=37

http://www.thevistatweaks.com/...ng-vista-upgrade-disk/

But the steps from the websites above did not work to activate my Vista upgrade disc, I'm assuming Microsoft fixed this which is why this process didn't work for me.

Do any of you guys know another way to activate a Windows Vista upgrade disc if you performed a clean install like I did?

I guess my last resort can be to go to a torrent site and download a crack to activate it, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

I wonder if calling MS support and telling them I have just spent hours downloading and installing drivers/software/updates and now I'm not able to activate my Vista upgrade disc becuase I didn't install it over Windows XP would make them allow me to activate it?

I would just install XP and do the upgrade. Not worth wasting your time monkeying around with it..........

Yeah I called them a few times last night but the first time I got this Indian guy, I couldn't understand him and he ended up hanging up on me or something because the call just ended.

Going to call them again right now and see if they can help me. *Crosses Fingers*

Coupla' points to ponder;

1. If MS allowed this, there would have been no need for a hack/fix to turn a Vista Upgrade into a standalone Vista install.

2. There's @ 100.00 difference between the upgrade and standalone versions.

3. You are so special that you don't hafta follow the guidelines because.............

4. If they do it for you, they'll hafta do it for everybody else?

Good Luck!

Edit;

I just wanted to add....

If ya do resort to this, don't come back and talk about it. ;)
