How do we know they aren't cheating on "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?"

It would seem rather easy for the kids to be allowed to write down multiple answers, clearing the screen after each answer, and then the producers/director could just pick the right or wrong answers depending on the situation.

Am I right?

you would have to prove it or the kids would have to come forward

Of course I have no proof. I'm just speculating for fun.

Yea, clearly no proof. Just like that show 'the moment of truth' - it's ridiculous. If it works the way they say - they strap the contestants to a polygraph beforehand - then it's really just a game of chance. It's a well documented fact that polygraphs are only marginally accurate at detecting lies. They measure if you're breathing/heart rate/sweating/etc alter, but a sensitive question could cause that even if you aren't lying.

forms of reality tv aren't really that much more "real" than scripted TV - they just pay the actors less.

Yes, and deal or no deal. I personally find both shows and those who watch them a greater threat to this nation than anything else and feel they should all be put into a great big hole and flooded, but I don't know if it's got the public support yet for me to really push it at the national level.

Agreed, and the long pauses between their answers and the "true" not true answer makes the show worth nothing more than watching its pilot. I suspect we should give people a three-show grace. If they watch it four times in a row they also get put in the water pit.

I watched half of the 2nd episode and turned it off. Those pauses after responses are irritating. They don't add to the suspense, they make me turn away from the TV and look for something else to do.

I watched the last 10 minutes of it last week. How can someone not know about Chuck Yeager? That's unpossible.

Sometimes morality and profiteering aren't on the same side.

I'm convinced that most game shows are rigged. They do it for entertainment. As for "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader" I've seen multiple instances where I thought "Yeah, there's NO way this isn't rigged."

One example that comes to mind was during the show's first season. It was late in the game and the guy was going for something like $200k. They asked what the diameter of a circle was if it's radius was 12. The dude answering the question got it wrong but he still had his "cheat" left allowing him to use his classmate's answer if he got it wrong.

For some reason, the kid wrote 23.

Now, I don't know about you, but there's no way in HELL they could logically even come close to getting 23 when the answer was 24. Even if they didn't know you double the radius, maybe they'd get 6 (thinking radius and diameter were swapped). "I'll add ELEVEN to 12 for my answer! I have no reason for doing that except screwing this guy over."

Google ; Question was who was the US Pilot who piloted the first airplane that broke the sound barrier .

She was greedy and it cost her, but, I understood her decision to give the big prize a go, history was a strong subject of hers. She's got a medical career to fall back on so she won't be hurting for cash.

The whole show is built on a false premise anyway

Intelligence =/= Knowledge

Both are usually associated because smart people tend to question why and how stuff works
I could get all answers wrong and be a hundred times smarter than any of those kids - It simply means I have no interest in those subjects being asked

Plus, they just know what they read, and if you ask them something unexpected theyll quickly tumble

I don't watch it regularly, but it's occasionally fun - mostly to see what complete morons some people are. One person on the show got the question, "What country shares the longest border with the United States?". Their answer: "Mexico". Another person could not identify what the largest object in our solar system was.
