How do we help the Third World Countries?

Regardless of all our opions of Bush's new immigration policy, the issue really forces us to look at the reality of this world. Even if the west adopts more open door immigration policies, this really only helps a very small percentage of the third world. Much of the world will continue to live in subjugation and poverty. Do we stand back and allow them to develop "naturally" into more free and prosperous societies? Or are we so interconnected that we must take a more active approach? The developed world needs to decide which route to go.

No matter where you live, it is general human nature not to want those you perceive as outsiders to interfere with your business. America was founded on such a principle. So today, we shouldn't butt in on other people's business. Of course, we're doing that quite often. This is being read as American arrogance and thus wacko fundamentalists convince otherwise intelligent men to hijack planes and kill our innocent civilians.

How do we lead the world to democracy and fair and free economies? By providing a bright shining example, and EARNING the respect of the rest of the world. Its not easy, but its proven to work. The Iron Curtain fell not just because America had a stronger military (which it should always have), but because people behind the Iron Curtain wanted to be like Americans. Alot of people in the 3rd world still want to be like Americans or immigrate to America. We should keep on inspiring them to break out of their molds for themselves to work their way towards becoming more prosperous nations. We need to WHAM them (win hearts and minds).

Launching pre-emptive, unilateral land invasions and occupations is not the way to do that.

Just because a country is given the option to become a democracy does not mean it will. I mean, most democracies aren't even a century old.(with the same government that is)

Either way, I don't see it ever happening as long as people have the issue of "my god is better than yours".

True, but forcing a Democracy doesn't mean the Democracy will succeed either.

thats why you have to force the democracy and then occupy the country for 60 yrs hoping that democracy becomes imbedded in the next few generations way of looking at things.

Third world poverty, theres only one way to sort that out... turn your back on it and walk away, why cause the buggars just don't stop breeding. Its inevitable some of us [or countries] will fall by the wayside, we only have a finite amount of time, no time for slackers.

The key to helping people is to listen to them, find their needs, & satisfy their requests.
Forcing your self on others doesn't help.
Countries are big, full of all kinds of people, which people does one help ?
The very poorest are the ones who need the help. But what help?

One suggestion is: get all the used stuff we throw out & give it to their poor.
Thrift shops take ton's of clothes to the dump every year.
Kids in other countries need that kind of stuff, & they are the poorest of their poor.

When the middle class is large, democracy will prevail. (Is this true ? It seems reasonable ?)
When the seperation between the rich & poor is great, disaster results.
Used clothes won't be stolen by the rich.
Money normally spent on clothes by the poor, could be spent on other needs if we gave them our used clothes.
Would democracy be the result if we helped the poor become middle class, in third world countries ?

small teams of skilled people sent in to train the people there for various industries, Iceland has been doing this for years in Africa, has produced realy good results for their fishing industry (also for us since the companies tend to buy tech equipment from us in return :))
