How do UC Intercampus Transfers work?

I'm currently at UCSC, but my goal is to make it to UCSD somehow. I didn't get in as a freshman though, coming from high school. Is it still possible to transfer? The best case scenario would be if I'm able to transfer next year (sophomore year). I'm currently an EOP student, would that status also apply if I transfer elsewhere, or would I have to scrounge around for housing just like everyone else. I'm pulling a 3.8 right now, but I'm pretty sure getting rejected as a high school student may kinda put a hinder on things.

I hear that a lot, but no one really tells me why it's difficult. Is there a lot of red tape? Or generally, it's just not easy to get into another UC?

Yeah I've heard that it's hard also. The only explanation I've heard is that since you're already in a UC, you are receiving a decent education. So they're more likely to accept someone from a community college rather than a transfer from a UC. Dunno how much truth there is to that theory.

It's very difficult to transfer from UC to UC, I talked to my advisor a long time ago about transferring from UC Berkeley to UCSD. She said that 70% of transfer spots are reserved for community college applicants and the rest you fight out between UCs and other universities. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try, but be aware that the chances are against you.

I ended up withdrawing from Berkeley and enrolling at CSU Pomona.

hey OuterSquare, why did u do that? Isn't Berkeley a way better school? I guess you didn't like it?

I know a girl here at UCLA that transferred to Berkeley....never heard from her again. Oh well.

It depends what you mean by a 'better' school and what you want out of education. If what you want is a top notch reputation at a bargain tuition, it doesn't get much better than Berkeley. However, if you want to learn, be able to select your own major, and live in clean surroundings, there are lots of better schools.

IMO, Berkeley is a massively overcrowded school, located in a city with living conditions that can rival third world countries, populated by pyschotic residents. One of my major concerns while walking to class everyday would be if I would step in human defecation along the way. All the majors that are in demand are horrifically competitive and some can be basically considered inaccessible to all but flawless students. I found this out the hard way, I entered Berkeley as a premed student, but sometime in my first semester I decided I wanted to work in the technology sector. Because of the administration, it's basically impossible for non engineering majors to switch majors to EE, and the CS program is horribly impacted, unless you have a 3.8 GPA in the core lower division classes, you can't get in. I mean it's one thing to have a competitive major, but it's another to make it basically inaccessible to nearly all students.

Personally, I think CSU Pomona has a very good engineering program, I've taken a couple EE classes at Berkeley and Pomona's classes readily match the material. The teaching is IMO, even better at Pomona because the classes are small and the professors are primarily teachers, as to doing research. And of course, I was able to get the major I wanted which was EE. The campus is clean and pleasant, I don't have to worry about stepping in human sh*t while walking to class nor being harrased by bums. Also, there are alot more girls at Pomona than Berkeley. :D Honestly I don't have any major complaints about going to school at Pomona aside from my major being extremely difficult, but obviously that's not the school's fault. My only regret about transferring to Pomona is that I didn't do it sooner.
