Its as fast as a Geforce4mx460 (slightly slower on some benchies though i'm sure drivers have improved) with DX9 support- G4mxs are based onff the Geforce2.

Uhhh so don't get it...

the 128 megs is just a big marketing gimmic...

It's not really a decent card. If you have slightly under $75 to spend (or even less than $50), a Radeon 9100 variant is the best card for the money, and if you have $100 or a tad bit more, a Ti4200 or Ti 4400 will do a lot better than the FX-5200 (though new games will be hard for the Geforce 4's). If you can though, try to get a Radeon 9600 Pro, but that may bring you a bit over $100 unless you're lucky.

As for why the FX-5200 is slower than the GF4 4200 to 4600 family, well nVidia marketing is just weird like that.

Wtf does that even mean? That's great advice. Someone asks for an econmy car, "Quit being a bum and buy a Bentley!" Freakin' idiot...

Anyways, I'm with everyone else, if you want to play ALL games, you're looking at a minimum of a Radeon 9600 Pro or a GeForce FX5600 Ultra. Anything less is really a waste of money for a gaming machine.

Or a geforce4 ti4200 for around $100 -- it should even play Doom3 and HL2 at 800x600 resolution, though the rendering won't be quite as nice as the 9600 pro.

TeamLegend if you absolutely can't spend over $75 you might find a used ti4200 for that price in the FS/FT forum, or a 128 MB version for $85-100.

under $100 GeForce4 Ti4200\4400
$100-$200 ATI Radeon 9600 Pro\XT (NOT a 256MB version, or an SE, LE, etc.)

I'd save the extra cash for the 9600 Pro or XT (the XT is a higher clocked Pro, and I belive has the same dynamic overclocking capabilities as the 9800XT)

Absolutely. Just because we all all these new cards doesn't mean everyone should get them. A ti4200 still does as good a job today playing games as it did a year ago. Besides HL isn't going to be out for a while due to the a$$hole that hacked into their system. So a ti4200 will run pretty much anything well as long as you don't max out the AA and AF.

$99 for even a Radeon 9800SE is an idiotic deal, no store in their right mind would willingly do that. $99 for maybe an FX5600 non-ultra or a Radeon 9600 is more probable

I dont believe I would pi55 on a 5200. I totally think it is the worst card nvidia ever put out. Do yourself a favor and save some more money. Get at least a 4200. I would still go with radeon anyday. The everyday apps are much clearer and better on a radeon than an nvidia card. That is my opinion.

um..the Fx5600 Ultra is on sale NOW at best buy for $105! (175-70 rebate).

so a radeon 9800 for $99 on black friday is possible!

unless there's a card inbetween a fx5600 ultra and an ati 9800??
