Only 10% of people use 10% of their brain 10% of the time. (Of course, there's only a 10% chance of this)

In reading this thread I know I'm using way too much brainpower. Brainpower, I might add, that should be going to more productive endeavors. ;)

The power of the brain is not in it's size, nor in the percentage that is actively 'engaged' at any given time. The power lies in the incredible number of connections that can be made and the ability to create new pathways in the neural network. It's basically a flexible network of millions of little computers.

If by "what percentage of the brain is used" you mean "what percentage of the braincells are involved in active participation at any given time", the percentage lies close to 9%. If you mean "how much of your total brain mass do you actually use", it's about 100% for everyone. Those that are more 'intelligent' have brains that are better at making different pathways and connections within the network. Einstein's brain was no larger than the average person's, and he didn't "use" a higher percentage of his brain than anyone else. He simply made better use of it.

tagej,

<< The power lies in the incredible number of connections that can be made and the ability to create new pathways in the neural network >>

True for everyone save the poor Poloks. :) Seriously, this is accurate and I've seen estimates that PC computational power won't reach this threshold until about 2060. This works out fine for me as I'll have faded out well before the world fills with Borg Drones. Resistance may be futile but dying at the proper time certainly defeats the problem altogether.

I'll just assume that I'm one of the avg ppl who have used up only 4 to 8% of their brain.
So, I still have at least another 90% of my brain free for future use, meaning I now have the potential of becoming 10 times smarter than I currently am!! :D

There's no proof that any of this is true. But, you can keep on hoping that magically there may be some way for you to 'tap' the true power of your brain.

The reason why Einstein was so smart was because certain lobes were enlarged and he had far more creases. Which goes along with the theory that he simply had a bigger and more dense brain.

The brain would not be bigger than it needed to be.

They take the brain out 1% at a time.

In Democrats, after 1% is removed, the ability to comprehend all right wing ideology is completely lost. Thereafter, as each percent is removed comprehension is lost starting at the far right of the political spectrum and moving leftward. Upon removal of more than 10% of the brain, the Democrat dies.

In Republicans, full functionality is maintain after the entire brain is removed which has caused leading researchers to conclude that brains are atavistic organs for Republicans, which is entirely consistent with the philosophical underpinnings of the sub-species.

In right wing Christians, removal of the brain and heart cause NO observable dysfunction, leading researchers to conclude that it is not necessary to have a heart or brain if you are of the right wing Christian sub-species.

In Libertarians, removal of all organs of the sub-species results in no observable loss of function. Again, this is consistent with observation.

But then, I'm sure this is elementary biology for most of you.

You're right that there's no proof of this theory being true.
But neither is there any proof of it being wrong.

Since I don't have the expertise in this field, I'll leave it the way it is...hehe
Cheers everyone!!
