for example, dpreview has pixel-by-pixel capture of the lcd screen of camera to show their interface and display....

this gizmodo review has capture of the palm pre UI...

do they have special hardware? or special software from the assorted manufacturers to be able to do this? or they hack it themselves somehow?

The iPhone has a screen capture feature built in that saves to a regular picture. I would assume the Pre does as well, that is what the pic you posted looks like.

they just take a picture of it, take it to the 1hr photo processing place then scan the photo... duh.

lol I'm tempted to try that with my blackberry. Wonder how well that would scan, considering it's light.

It's like people who use a camera flash to take a picture of a projected image.

Doesn't the Palm Pre run PalmOS apps? I'm sure there's a screen capture program in that vast library of software somewhere.

Garmin offers the free xImage program that will screen capture from any of the Garmin ##x handheld models like the 76CSx and 60CSx.

I heard that it's a completely different OS and that they can't guarantee total compatibility. Not sure what that means now as I read it a little while ago but I think it might be different.
