How do the Sith differ from dark side force users?

I guess you have:
1. Former Jedi gone to dark side
2. Never Jedi dark side
3. Former Jedi gone to dark side and Sith
4. Never Jedi dark side and now Sith

But, what is the difference?

I dont think its been thought through yet. Cant you tell by the movies... they seem to be thrown together with whatever is convenient... make something up and send it in to Lucas... you might just get it in the next movie!

As far as I can tell from the game KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) there were a bunch of dark Jedi that were expelled from the Republic. They hid on the Sith planet. The Sith were a race that studied the dark side, and the dark Jedi learned all of their secrets. They eventually raised an army and went to war with the Republic, but in the fighting all of the original Sith were wiped out, leaving only the dark Jedi who then called themselves Sith. Eventually through various wars all of the Sith were thought to be destroyed, but some went in to hiding and started the whole master/apprentice thing.

So to answer your question, in the movies anyone can use the dark side, but only the master/apprentice pair can be Sith, ie there are only 2 of them. In the games which were set waaaaay before the movies, anyone in the Sith army is a Sith, and the master/apprentice are at the top of the pecking order.

What if you have 4 Dark Jedi.
One pair says they are Sith master/apprentice, and so does the other pair.
Which pair is Sith?

The pair that destroys the other pair.

You don't have to be a force user to be a "Sith", the Sith were a race of people who died out, but their way of life has not died with the dark Jedi. Basically what happened is that some dark Jedi found the Sith homeworld and they basically used their powers to convince the Sith that they were gods and they were in turn worshiped as gods. "Lord" Vader meant exactly that. Eventually the Master/Apprentice system came into being where the strongest ruled.

It would depend, if one pair is clearly dominant they'd be the duo without any fight and the lesser dark jedi would basically be their b!tches. There were quite a few dark force users during Palpatine's reign but none of them were near the might of Vader or the Emperor.
