How do the GF3s overclock?

I would like to know how high you gf3 owners are clocking your cards, and which brand card you have.

Visiontek

CORE: 265 (yeah, your reading that right)
MEMORY: 545 (reading this one right to)

In short... mine overclocks HUGE!

i think most geforce3's use 3.8ns ram. wouldn't that mean that the memory on those cards are technically good for 263mhz (or 526mhz ddr)? i'm not sure about the cores but i would ALMOST assume that most geforce3's should be able to safely run the memory a bit over 500mhz without a problem.

Man that is super schweeeet!

Chad did you change the memory timings off that card? Or is that just the stock settings with a mad overclock. Care to explain what kind of water block you have running over the memory? 😛

I havent done more than 10 minutes of testing... Seems like my max clock was 240, and my max memory around 515, not exactly as good as I had hoped, however I am running it on a p2 450 on a pos mboard with crappy memory, etc etc, untill I get my new system up, however I don't know if this has anything to do with overclocking ability.

VBboy,

you're right, there are less cards advertised at 3.8ns than i thought, but they are out there (i looked on pricewatch). anyway, the point i was making is that the ram is technically faster than the stock clock speed. even with 4ns ram, the ram should technically be capable of 250mhz (500mhz ddr), so i think there should be no problem overclocking to around the 500mhz zone.

could it be bad to attempt to overclock a geforce3? I have the gainward GF3 (no VIVO), and would like to attempt an overclock, but I don't want to fry my video card, you know? So, is it safe to overclock a video card or should I just be happy with what I have? (runs fine at stock speeds for me for the most part...heh even Giants runs smooth!).

Finality,

It's just a mad overclock. I do have a full tower Tornado 2000 case with 7 fans, 2 of which are on the side and point right in on the video card.

tornadobox, it should be safe but i'm sure there are some risks. if it is running too hot, you will see artifacts on the screen like white speckles and stuff and it will crash a lot. just lower the clock until that doesn't happen anymore.

you can do permanent damage eventually, but you'll see start to see artifacts and texture tearing long before that happens.

I overheated my old school Canopus Pure3D (not even with OCing) and after a while it would display torn textures and artifacts all the time. I first started noticing and didn't think it was a problem.

After that I got a 3dfxcool slot cooler for my voodoo2 🙂
