I was pretty indifferent to Perry as governor, but I like him for president. It'd be a lot like getting another term of Bush, and I loved Bush all the way through.

Yeah, but a person who wishes others to get hit by a truck only demonstrates their own death wish. It's no more surprising that you would like Bush than you'd be fascinated by guns. The only person you need protection from is yourself. Relax, go fishing or golfing or something and become one with the beauty of the world. You may hate yourself and anybody who doesn't hate you so you need to appear to be an ass, but I see your real potential. Relax and be happy. Much love from your dear friend Moonbeam.

Texas doesn't exactly have the brightest citizens. Its 2011 and this state has hundreds of thousands living in Shacks without power and plumbing. Its like something you would see in New Delhi.

It's called laissez-faire for a reason. The people in the shanty towns don't value electricity and plumbing enough to pay the market price for it. There are plenty of other consumers that do value it enough to pay the market price. Ipso facto, the people in the shanty towns don't want power and plumbing.

Yeah we send people to jail who are convicted of crimes and we don't send people who haven't been convicted to jail. That black mold in the basement is starting to make you even dumber.

Please don't call cubby a mold induced basement idiot. He is a sensitive human being who has never known real respect. It's not his fault, therefore, that when some idol of his is attacked he needs to deflect.

It was HIS claim, not mine, that the letter D and R were the only difference. Your attack on me and your failure to note this speak very poorly of your own intellect. Run along now before Red Dawn drops in and reminds you it's time to eat.

This is true. I don't have a private jet because I don't value one enough to pay for it.

I imagine you just placed yourself in 1-3% of the P&N vote.

It's a shame I didn't directly respond to this earlier. Forgive me.

OP, certainly you know how folks are elected. In 2012 a Republican will buy off their party in the primary. If they have a strong opponent they'll throw in another Fred Thompson to split the opposing votes and ensure their own majority.

After the primary the rest of the election is simply left up to the great disease of our politics. Two party sportsmanship. Votes for Perry would come down to mostly opposition votes against our Communist Muslim Space Alien from Kenya. They might not like Perry, but they can't split the vote and risk Obama's re-election!

So it comes down to the seesaw of voter participation and public outrage against the incumbents. With the ballot box stacked you could place Hitler on it and he'd have a solid chance of winning.

Perry's already playing hard to the religious right, who've been feeling ignored for a little while now.

Add in throwing road blocks to allow people to vote and that's pretty much been the Republican playbook for the last 30 years.

Getting good grades in school or being highly intelligent has little or nothing to do with being a political leader. Both Carter and Obama are highly inteliigent but were crappy presidents.

How can people talk about others' qualifications when they don't know the difference between succeed and secede?

So you equate not knowing the correct word or spelling of the word as a reason to not give an opinion on someone who wants to or panders to those that want to secede from the US? LOL....LOL indeed.

Not knowing word/spelling <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< wanting to/pandering to those that wan to secede. Talk about qualification gap!

How can he become President when he wants his state to succeed from the Union??
Governor Perry did not advocate secession, he merely pandered to the Tejano Tea Partiers who do:
"There's a lot of different scenarios. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot"

I'm a lifelong Texan who's lived outside the state a handful of times for short periods. I'm also more of a classical conservative than anything. Perry is a disgrace, corrupt to the core, and bought by big business/corporate interests. He's the polar opposite of the idea of responsible gov't and fair practices. His energy and road policies have resulted in ludicrous tollways, uncompetitive energy prices, and just general idiocy. Our governor's races are always a laugh, Perry would have been probably booted out a while back if they weren't such a circus with so many clowns dividing the opposition vote. He won in 06 with just 39% of the vote. Of course Texas is filled with brain-dead folks (I'd say about 30% at least) who will pull the 'R' lever regardless of logic, but what we really need is a more honest, intelligent, and competent conservative to run.

I can only hope that Perry does run, gets his ass kicked, and retires from the spotlight so we can get a post Bush/Perry type elected.

Oh, you mean those shanty towns on the border of TX and Mexico where illegal immigrants and their US citizen children live? Why don't you just pay more taxes and have them send it to those poor towns so they can improve their condition.

Seems like they're towns of US citizens then, but I guess they're not American enough for a certain type of people, huh?

Why isn’t more done to improve conditions in the colonias?

The colonias' growth has challenged residents, as well as county, state and federal governments and others, to seek ways to provide basic water and sewer services and to improve the quality of life in the colonias. Local public funds and other resources are often limited and unable to provide service to the current and growing colonia population. Hidalgo County, which has the most colonias and largest number of colonia residents in Texas, is typical of many border counties. For basic health and human services, environmental services and capital improvements, colonia residents must rely on an often confusing combination of local, state and federal programs, many of which come and go, depending on the political and economic climate.

One's crap is another's perfume. Head to Texas instead off regurgating Den talking points. That way you can learn first hand the truth outside the beltway

which is that no one here likes him all that much but the democrats keep putting up borderline incompetent politicians (not incompetent people, just politically incompetent) who couldn't make a speech if their lives depended on it. that and even though tons of money flows to the national democratic coffers from here very little of it comes back. the national dems have given up on texas.

unfortunately texas hasn't been the beneficiary of 200 years of internal mercantilism and is damaged to a much greater extent than other states by the lack of cohesive national immigration policy.

yes, texas has high teen pregnancy rates. when you break the rates down by race/ethnicity, you see that texas wasps are roughly in line with wasps from the northeast, texas blacks are roughly in line with blacks from the northeast, and texas latinos are roughly in line with latinos in the northeast. but because latinos are a large portion of the population here, texas's teen pregnancy rate is much higher than the lily white portions of the country.
