personally i think red light cameras should be illegal. when they start turning them off because they are not generating enough revenue you know its not about safety anymore.

When they start REMOVING them because they're not generating enough revenue, you know they're not about safety anymore. Turning them off doesn't matter since the public doesn't know if they're on or off.

Of course they are for revenue. They're fining people who decide their time is more valuable than everyone else's safety. Fine by me, better than higher taxes all around. When they start reducing the yellow light times to catch more people, I have a problem with that.

A red light ticket is one of the most expensive ones here about $190. It's needed as people will run certain lights until it turns back to green!

Unfortunately instead of having cops at these intersections they camp out at the stupidest spots to nail the guy that runs a stop sign at an intersection that may see 100 people a day.

I don't get it.

They put these cameras up in the poor sections of town first. I think it was aimed at a certain class of folks... I don't agree with it. The companies that run the cameras are not the police....and I REALLY don't agree with that. It's a money train for many and that irritates me.

At the same time, there are some cameras pointing at a dangerous stretch of road to deter speeding. The limit is 40mph and there have been plenty of kids killed there. The ticket is a moderate $50 and it isn't reported to the dept of safety (ie. no points from your license if you get nailed) I totally respect this scenario if they continue to keep the ticket cost low. It sends a message without ripping people off....plus, there aren't extra speedtraps setup around the area now like there used to be.
