How do preorders work?

When do you pay? When you buy the preorder, or when the item is in stock?

There are some places that don't charge your card until it ships.

Hmmm... if I'm doing preorders for XBOX 360s on eBay, should I require payment immediately or when I have the item in stock? I'm thinking when I actually have the item in stock, right?

Most places give you the choice. When I preordered my PSP at ebgames, they asked if I wanted to do a $10 down payment, or I could pay any amount I wanted above that, up to the full price.

If it's eBay, u adhere to the rules of the seller. I doubt you will find any ebay seller who won't require payment right away.

Places that take your money before they have it in stock and ship piss me off.....
