How easy is it to go from an AthlonXP shuttle to an A64 version? Are the motherboard layouts even the same from version to version? If not it seems like a really poor upgrade path.

Are you asking if you can use your current hardware when migrating to the A64 platform?

If so, that's what I initially did... used the RAM, hard drive, DVD burner, and floppy I had in my tower case and slapped them right into a SN95G5. Only purchases necessary were the Shuttle (of course) and a A64 cpu.

The same would apply if you are moving from a XP to a A64 Shuttle.

it is a poor upgrade path... since you would have to upgrade the motherboard AND the power supply, maybe even the heatpipe.

I used to be a MAD upgrader... now I like my money a little more so I judiciously upgrade every 2-3 years. Motherboards and processors will have changed by that time anyways so all I would be able to salvage would be my case and MAYBE the power supply so Shuttle aint that bad of an upgrade as long as you aren't buying the $400 SFFs they have.

My money is on the SK83G for $200 from newegg

i build/buy a new system every 2-3 years. there are just too many new plugs, sockets, form factors, etc, etc, etc to make upgrading make sense anymore.
