How do people run on 1024x768??

Was at a friend's house earlier today, trying to fix his computer . . .

guy had a Sony 15" LCD . . . I couldn't see more than 2 windows at a time!!

i know, computer nubs always have the res at like 800x600 or 10x7. drives me nuts!!! my desktop is at 12x9, and i would probably put it at 16x12 if my monitor was better.

i run it on my laptop, but not desktop. it's the highest resolution my laptop goes to. It works cause I rarely have more than two windows open at a time.

Want to know something even funnier? My co-worker kept straining his eyes to look at his monitor and he would complain of headaches at the end of the day. So one day I had to help him and took a look at his monitor and immediately noticed the problem: default 60Hz refresh rate. UNGH! How can people be so ignorant about computers?

the pc i'm posting on now is @ 640X480...but its my htpc that is hooked up to a 27" tv...im sitting across the room...cant see text in 8X6...dot pitch isnt good enough

wow!! im running 1400x1050, next monitor is 1680x1050, if i go downstairs, its 1920x1200!

yeah. i put my PC from 1600x1200 to 1024x768 when i use tv-out. otherwise, the thing has scrolling issues and the screen isn't centered.

No $$ to blow?? This guy got a Nintendo DS on ebay for $400 and then within a week, got tired of it . . .

Even 17" LCDs are 1280x1024 . . .:roll:

OUCH! @ 60 hz


Also, about the ignorant thing, what sets us apart is RESEARCH. I don't know everything about computers, but I know where to get the info I need, and if needed to learn about a particular thing, I learn it fairly quickly, because I already know most of the terms.

1600*1200, dad's uses 1280*1024, mom's uses 1024*768, laptop at 800*600 (it was free :p). Our house only uses lcds (except for the tv, but that MIGHT be fixed with a diy lcd projector). Yes, resolutions lower than 1280*1024 bother me if the dot pitch is large, but a small low res display with a good dot-pitch is nice to use.

a buddy of mine has a 2560x1600 30" cinema display on order, now that its "ONLY" $3000 :roll:

on my main rig i run at 16X12 on the 21" and 1280X1024 on the 19 though...my moms computer is running 640X480 though...on a 17" crt...arghh...she says she can see better...i bumped up the res and increased the text size and icons and all that but she wanted it back the way it was...whatever

I would love a bigger monitor, but on my 15".. 1024x768 is as good as it gets, at 85hz anyway.

Which video card is he using? The MAC needs the special dual-link DVI card from NVidia and I think some high end PC workstation cards also support dual-link.

he has dual 2.0GHz G5, he got the 6800Ultra DDL with the thing . . .

$3700!! somehow, he didn't get taxed . . .

1680x1050@60hz (LCD) here.

But used 1024x768@85hz for years (was capable of 1280x1024 but only at 60hz). My first computer was a Commodore 64. Its not a noob thing for everybody, its a money thing.
