There was never any doubt that the US would go in and fix afghanistan, just like we always have. Look at Kuwait, we(US, UK, and France, i think) spent 9 months putting out oil fires.

<< And another thing, what exactly would we rebuild? Their rocks and dirtpiles, or the thriving economy they had before we got there and gave them back their freedom? >>

Yeah, thats a good response. They had nothing when we started, so we'll leave 'em with nothing.

Also, when you say we I sure you don't just mean the Americans - if I remember rightly there were other nations there too.

By the time all is said and done in Afghanistan, The US will probably have put more money into that place than any 5 countries put together. Not a fact just a guess. ;)

BTW I didn't know about the whole British Homo thing.

<< Like the situation in Afan at the moment, the Americans go in, bomb hell outta the county with the sole intent of finding Bin Laden. When (and I guess if) you find him, you will clear out of the country and leave others to pickup the pieces and rebuilt the country. >>

No other statement could better prove your ignorance than that one right there. Try watching the news once in a while, asshat.

That is wrong - America should play a joint part in helping rebuilt and resolve the problems in Afgahnistan. Just killing Bin Laden and his henchmen now won't stop repeats of Sept 11th in the future. If there is not a stable government left at the end of this, in a couple of years a milita group will take power, like the Taliban did and terrorism will once again thrive.

Just an opinion...

Not entitled to an opinion nowadays?

BTW, I watch the news plenty, asshat :)

Are you being sarcastic?

Yes, all the other nations whose soldiers died, and the other nations whose bombs were being used. Give me a break. Sending a handful of soldiers to go in and twiddle their thumbs is no big deal to me.

Nothing that you have posted here would prove that. We have said all along that bin laden is not our priority, al queda is. Also, we have stated time and again that we would help rebuild the country, make sure the goverment got on it's feet, help with a new military etc. So if you were watching the news and were actually smart enough to understand what they were saying, which evidently your not, your opinion wouldn't be wrong now would it? Of course none of these facts would fit very well into the America bashing you're doing in this thread now would it, asshat? If you're going to have an opinion about something, try basing on at least one fact instead of just making sh!t up so you can criticize America.

Sigh** Some of you American bashers never learn do you? What is this, pre-conceived notion day or something? "Bombing the hell" out of Afghanistan was not and is not the sole intention of US combat operations over there. The primary focus of the mission was the destruction of the Al-Qaeda organization. And, for the most part, the operation has been a success. Camps and caves destroyed. Al-Qaeda is no longer the threatening entity it once was. Before spouting off with a bunch of misinformation, you really should read the news. And no, I'm not talking about the Mirror or Mail on Sunday with their own twisted brand of information either.

That is wrong - America should play a joint part in helping rebuilt and resolve the problems in Afgahnistan. Just killing Bin Laden and his henchmen now won't stop repeats of Sept 11th in the future. Sigh*** again. Now why in the hell do you think Hamad Karzai is visiting Washington as we speak? Bacon and Eggs, perhaps? Oh, by the way, there is a thing called justice and you can bet your ass we are gonna get it too. Rebuilding Afghanistan? Now I wonder who is taking the lead on that one. Greenland? And if you want to get into arguments that your house over in the UK is so clean about bombing civilians, I have three words for you..... Alan "Bomber" Harris.

I asked a Puerto Rican kid this question a few years ago. I forgot some of his answers, but the one that stuck out was that American men have small, well you know. I was devestated.

I'm reminded of a joke....

What do you call someone who speaks two languages?
Bi-lingual

What do you call someone who speaks two languages?
Tri-lingual

What do you call someone who speaks one language?
An American

I learned how true that was when visiting Israel a few years ago. Some of the people on the trip felt that everyone else needed to learn english.

<< It's very hard to make fun of the US culture as a whole because it is so diverse. >>

What?!?

It's quite simple to make fun of any culture. Though it's probably best, and more humourous, to make fun of your own.

Now, Americans are quite poor at both performing and indentifying satire. Many mistake bad satire for personal insults. Therefore satire is strongly discouraged.

In Canada, we have so much satire that we export much of our high-grade satire to the States. There, it's mistaken for slapstick or sarcasm and is widely accepted. Of course, we have threatened to halt the supply of satire if the US government imposes tariffs on our softwood lumber.

Most of the jokes I hear from others include the usual stuff already mentioned: 'fat,' 'don't realize there's a world outside America,' and 'lazy.' The lazy one always gets me because unless I'm way off here, the average American works far more hours a year than most countries due to the fact that we get FAR less vacation/holiday time and our economy (for the most part anyway) encourages people to work hard for financial reward.

As for the Afghanistan subthread, I seriously doubt that we're going to just to bail out once the war there is over (which it mostly seems to be.) Japan is the shining example of what you can accomplish by aiding a former war enemy. Granted, there are a number of factors which aided their dramatic recovery after WWII which won't make things near as smooth in Afghanistan. But it's still something to strive for.

<< I don't know if anyone here watches the tv show junkyard wars. The other night I saw an episode with an American team and a British team trying to build a device to clear "landmines" loaded with paint from a beach.

The British went with a very simple hand controlled design attached to a little volkswagon that moved very slowly and methodically across the beach searching for the landmines.

The Americans built a monstrosity using an old Army truck with a V-8 motor turning an even larger axle with chains attached that ripped up the sand so much you couldn't see the paint from the landmines.

The host commented on how the nationality of the teams and their approach to the mission seemed appropriate.

And yes...the Americans won.
>>

Then its a darn good thing I don't get my political and social news from Junkyeard wars. :)

And you left out the fact that the commentator of Junkyard wars is also British :)
