How do people afford cars these days?

That's definitely true. I'm 18 (high school senior) and the next car I'm buying's gonna be a 2002 VW Jetta with all the options. The only way I'm getting this car is co-signed financing with my dad through the dealership or a co-signed loan from another place. I work part time @ 22/hr and am gonna work full time over the summer @ 25/hr. Part of the reason I can also afford this car is cuz of my college scholarships. But the main thing is having a steady income that can take care of the car payments.
