How do Moderators decide between a LOCK or a DELETE?

What is the reasoning behind it? Is it simply the flip of a coin or is there logic behind it?

I (The Mean Mod) lock threads that are not harmful in content so members can view it and learn what not to post.
If the content is harmful,it will be deleted to protect the members.

As with anything, it's a judgement call. If a mod feels the content is too obscene or racist or indecent, the thread will probably be deleted. Anything else is simply locked.

Azraele, are you a mod or just an aspiring one? :)

That probably does sound like the best formula they could use.

Naaa, I'm no mod.

I'm not witty enough to be one. :p

So you think ;)

I just love the subtle but witty mod messages!

As soon as I get that cash to buy my mod an Athlon 4 notebook I will have the custom status under my name!
Yes! (evil laugh) Hahahahaha!

Well I got in trouble with the mod at the general hardware section for not being OT I guess. REF whatever that is, anyway it got locked. OK I was drunk, shouldn't of posted. And then this morning I see a thread in there about why SETI team members aren't putting in alot of computing time in or something to that effect, I hardly see where this is even remotely OT in general hardware, but allowed none the less because the person got prior permission from the mod. I see this as a double standard, just because the mod is interested in it, it is still off topic and therefore shouldn't be there. Are there different mods on each topic or there just one mod that overlooks all the threads? Just curious, don't want to start a flame fest or anything.

<<I see this as a double standard, just because the mod is interested in it>>

Grumpy: That person asked permission to post that topic, and, after consideration, the mods decided that it would be acceptable. Your post was made without permission, which is where I think the distinction lies.

Since you haven't provided links, and because I haven't seen either post, I can't really judge for sure.

Your best bet would probably be to email the mods with the proper links and info and ask them why they made that decision.

Just remember, the mods are people too, and they make judgement calls. They try to be consistent, but when dealing with 50,000+ members and posts, they might not catch everything. :)

Well I wouldn't put a link to my post because it was really stupid and I am too embarassed. It was the Dewars on the rocks talking. I don't like to judge people because I am highly flawed and therefore have no right to do so. It's no big deal really after a massive heart attack I now take life with a grain of salt and occasionally Dewars on the rocks.:) I'll shut up now.

I agree, though sometimes I do find myself judging another.

Everybody's flawed, it's part of what makes us human and able to learn from our mistakes. :)

My apologies Azraele. I didn't realize you are of the female gender. Your icon and handle threw me off.

Yes you do need to change it to Azraella!
lol

Seriously though, I've been here all this time and I never oce realized you were female, and given all the hype over female members at Anandtech it's quite surprising.

You're not the first one to have made that mistake, lol.

I've also had people call this nick the cat from the smurfs, though my nick is pronounced differently.

:p

I figured it was pronounced like Gargamels' cat from the Smurfs too:p So how is it pronounced?

Well, yes, and I chose the nick for my Diablo wizard on Battlenet. Only problem is that the correct spelling was taken, and so I chose this alternate spelling. Somehow it stuck.

You pronounce the "aele" like the "ale" in "pale.
