How do I use WinXP's repair/restore/recover???

When I try overclocking too high, I get a currupted or missing system file. How do I use WinXP's repair/restore/recover to fix it? Thanks for any help.
 
u have to create a restore point before u can restore.

start -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore.

i think if u press F8 while winxp is booting up u should get a screen which offers to boot up into the last known good configuration or something like that.
 
That's If you can boot into windows. If you can't even boot into windows, just insert the winxp CD and boot from it. It will give you the option of repairing winxp install.
 
There were times where I could boot up and use "the last known good configuration" but it never works. And when I can't even boot to that, I would put the boot with the cd and then goto repair. Has anyone actually used it? When I goto repair, all it does is brings me to DOS. I'm not sure if its called DOS but its where the screen is black and there are only white words. First thing I would see is

C:\Windows

I type "help" and it shows me a list of commands but none of them have to do with repairing winxp, or I just don't know which one does.
If anyone that has used repair that can help me, I appreciate it.

that is the console mode for winxp... to get into the more "automated" repair process, after inserting the winxp cd, choose the setup option, after which it will detect u have windows installed and it will offer a repair option.
