I attached two ram sinks on one side of the memory and i attached one of those blue shields on the opposite side. Did I install them correctly? What do I do with the metal hinges? thanks....

You are supposed to place a blue shield on each side of the memory and then hold them in place with the spring clips. Look at the back of the package and it shows how to install them. The larger sinks are for video card memory cooling not RAM.

Nothing wrong with using them for system memory too. As long as you're aware you won't be able to use the slot behind.

works both ways.. i installed mine with just the 2 heat spreaders.. since it would have blocked 2 of my dimm slots. plus it looks cooler like that.. but check out thermaltakes website.. those pictures on the cardboard are kind of dinky to read. they have some blownup pics on installation at their website.

The instructions are weird because they show a stick of memory with only one heat spreader and the heat sinks on the other side of the stick.
