How do I use both a wired router and a 802.11b wireless router at the same time?

I have 6 computers - 4 desktops and 2 laptops, all accessing the web through a cable modem.
I have a SMC 8 port wired router and an SMC wireless router with built-in 3 port switch.

Obviously I can get wireless PCI/PCMCIA cards for all of them and use just the wireless SMC, but since all of the desktops are in the basement, I like them to be on faster and cheaper cat5... not too much trouble to wire them all if they're in the same room.

But I also want to be able to use my laptops in different rooms of the house.

How would I go about setting this up?
Can I setup the wireless SMC as a WAP?

cable -> cable modem -> 8 port router -> ???? -> wireless router

Fill in the ????
How would I connect the wireless to the wired?
WAN from the wireless to LAN of the wired? I don't want it to route twice and be on separate networks.

just plug the wireless router into the wired 8 port router. you don't need anything in between. but i recommend you put the wireless router closer to the middle of the house so you'll have better reception

"Can I setup the wireless SMC as a WAP?"

It is an AP. You'd just need to follow warders advice and uplink the switch to a switched port on your wired only router's LAN side. you should also disable the DHCP server on your Router/AP combo. You can still allow it to obtain an IP as a client. Might be easier to assign it a static if it will allow it.
