Set your BIOS to boot either from CDROM or from SCSI, then set the options in your SCSI card setup to load the SCSI BIOS (should be a key combo while the SCSI card loads during POST to get you into setup). You'll probably need to have SCSI controller drivers on a floppy disc, to direct Windows Setup to them during the install.

I have a 2940 and I think the key combination is Ctrl A.

Yeah, adaptec's is ctrl-a. Yours may currently be configured not to display the prompt, so just start hitting it as soon as the IDE devices are done detecting. Even if a bootable CD is installed, the controller must be configured to load the SCSI BIOS into memory (and a couple of other options) in order to allow it to be used for booting.

The drivers of course can be freely downloaded from Adaptec's site. If you make a driver floppy with the Windows and/or DOS drivers on it (not sure which versions Setup can use), then during Setup when it says hit F6 to load SCSI drivers, do so. Without it, Setup can't use the CDROM drive even though it booted from it, as that is separate functionality. The "boot" area of the disc loads Setup, but can't go any further without drivers to read the device. This is different from Windows having drivers for use in the GUI, which XP should.

Thanks for the input guys..really appreciate it.

In anycase i solved the problem by buying a new IDE Lite-on cd-writer;)

yeah it's simple...tell the bios boot from CD, and tell the scsi card boot from the CD.

Then it will usually pause and say something like 'Select # of section to boot, pressing no key will continue'

i installed winxp off that same scsi controller many times..it has the drivers for it already and it will work just fine. all you have to do is set it to boot from either cdrom or scsi, and just push the spacebar or something to get it to boot when it gives you the option to do so

I think it's F5 to load a third party scsi/raid...but adaptec should be built-in.
