How do I turn a 512mb Lexar Jumprive Secure into a regular jumpdrive?

I found a Lexar web page where it says to just format the device in My Computer, but I get errors and it won't format. Nothing in the Jumpdrive Secure 2.0 Secure software works.

So, any ideas how do I just get rid of all the jumpdrive secure junk and just format it as vanilla 512mb jump drive? I tried the trial version of Bootit but it doesn't see the jump drive, just my floppy and CD. (I didn't read any of the Bootit literature, perhaps I have to pay to activate the USB part of it??)

That'll work - and so will Partition Magic. I have one of those Lexar's with a secure partition - and I just got rid of it.

I recall how I did it in Partition Magic. There are two partitions - one is Public and the other Private. I used P/M to delete the private, and then expand the public to fill the void.

OK - disregard all about P/M. It can't do it because the secure partition is locked/hidden. Here is the way:

1. The Lexar Secure Drive software comes on the drive in a folder called \JDSECURE. In that folder is \Windows, and a file called JDSECURE31.EXE.

2. Run that file. It will put an icon in the tray.

3. Right click on that icon and select CONFIGURE SECURE DRIVE.

4. That brings up an easy menu with a slider that lets you select the size of the PUBLIC vs PRIVATE area. Set Private to 0 and its all yours.

If you no longer have that software on the drive, you can download it. Look for the 3.3 ZIP file.

I tried that. It goes part way through and then give me an error message, something about "invalid secure partition, please format drive with one partition and try again". I can't run checkdisk on it, format it, nothing. I know 512mb jumpdrives are a dime a dozen but I have a personal vendetta against this POS, it's never worked correctly.

Any other ideas? I read somewhere that Lexar will email their drive format utility if you email their tech support. I may try that. A large hammer would be my next option....

Here's a try for you.

Boot with to an XP cd (like you would if you were going to reinstall the OS), and when you get to the part where it shows the parttitions, delete the security partition.
Make sure you boot with the drive plugged in. XP should see it.

OK - it doesn't work from the hard drive - you have to run it from the Lexar. That's where they are supposed to be. The boot ideas don't work because that partition is hidden and only Lexar's software can unhide it. Send it back - let them replace it or fix it.

These are examples of configuring the drive for zero private and all public, and a portion private.

I received the software from Lexar, I'll see if it works this afternoon.

If not, it's "Hammer Time"!!

How about a link to the file or a copy for us to download ? ?

It might be worth keeping in my utilities tools

I have no way of hosting. Just email Lexar tech support if you need it, it only took about a day for them to email it to me.

The file apparently unlocks the secure partition. I can see it in Win XP disk management, but I can't delete it as instructed. Perhaps I am not logged in as admin (sure thought I was....)? Oh well, I'll mess with it more later...
