How do I trick the Mobo fan header?

I just switched from a 3pin to a 4 pin molex for the CPu fan and my stupid OEM board bios doesn't have a turn off "CPU fan auto shut down" feature, how do I trick the mobo into thinking there is a 3 pin CPU fan there?

agreed, I have used this before, i just plug in an extra fan off of an old heatsink and screw, glue, or otherwise mount it out of the way, the last time i got it to blow across the ram slots....works fine:)

When I had a motherboard that needed to detect an RPM setting but I was worried about my fans drawing too much current I split the 3 wire connecting into two ends sending the yellow RPM signal to the board and then adapted the two power wires to a molex adapter to my PSU.

I don't really see how this would help you at all, but I don't think your board needs to detect a voltage drain, but sense an RPM signal instead.

I could be wrong but I think that's how mine worked.

Does the PSU have a fan connection? Maybe you could connect that to the CPU fan monitor.

Hey, good idea - use the rpm output from the PSU. That should be fairly easy with most modern hardware. Connect the signal/ground from the PSU to the rpm/ground pins on the MoBo.
