I have an old old old NEC p133 HD. I know, laugh, laugh :) It has an old western digital or seagate 2.1 gig HD :) It came with w95, I upgraded to w98. Phoenix Bios.
I am going to buy a new XP machine of some kind in the next few days.
How do I transfer my text and jpg files over to my new XP machine?
This machine locks up now, only boots when it wants to..grrrrrrrrr
No NIC card now in this PC

Tips?
Thanks

:)

Easiest thing would be to install the old hard drive in the new machine as a secondary drive.

I have to agree. Set the jumpers on that hard drive from "master" to "slave" and then hook it up. If you want, you can transfer the files and then remove it or you can just keep it as extra storage.

Windows XP does include a utility called "File/Settings Transfer Wizard", but it's tedious and slow. I would concur with the rest of the guys. Hooking the old hard disk directly to the new system as a slave device would be the preferable method.

thanks
The computer sales person at the SamClub store was trying to tell me that the old old HD from w95 or w98 couuld not be seen by XP. He also said the .txt and .jpg files could not be read.

I just want the old HD to be seen as a "d" drive so I can see the folders and transfer them over.:)

if your computers already have network cards why not just transfer it over that way? you save yourself the trouble of removing and reinstalling the hd. network cards are cheap now, and may be worthwhile for you have one even in your p133.

Xover cable or other would be needed(unless the p133 has a NIC and is on a network..) and he has said it is flakey to get running..as always YMMV
<edit> has no NIC in p133..so he would open or go USB(if has ports..) .. I find slaving a drive a fairly quick and most decidedly fast process of transfer
