What is my best option for basically taking the exact setup (O/S and all software, etc) from HD on 1 system to HD on new completely different system?
Have a bunch of old computers at work I am upgrading and need to transfer exact setups, settings, desktops, programs, etc to new computers. Different mobos, NICs etc in new computers.
I know easiest is to just swap HD's, but most of these HD's will be shot soon so want to bring everything over as is to newer systems. Is a major PITA to do it manually add programs, etc with just an OS install and then go in and add all software. Figure I can delete the enum key in registry to allow windows to find the different NICs, etc.
O/S will be 95 (yeah I know) and 98.
Thanx 🙂

A clean install would probably work best in the long run, but you could temporarily install the HD from the old PC into the new PC , then use Norton Ghost to simply copy the old drive to the new one.

Temporarily install the new drive as a slave. Go to Maxtor.com and download the MaxBlast software. It includes a utility to copy the contents of an old drive to a new one. I think it works on any drive. To be on the safe side, re-install Windows from a DOS prompt after the transfer. Link to Maxtor

Good call jjm, I have 2 or 3 of the maxblast disks at home, but I never even looked at them. That sounds like a very good idea. Thanx.
