How do I tell what type of RAM this is - I have numbers on it... (Compaq)

I recently upgraded a ton of computers and I got to keep the extra RAM. I know these are 168 pin PC66 SDRAM, but I don't know the MB of them. They will probably range from 8 MB to 64 MB. I have some Compaq numbers on them. - So, where can I go to see what these are? I've searched the Compaq site with the numbers and found nothing. Is there any other site that would have this sort of information? I don't have a computer here that is running on a system bus of 66 so, I can't test them the old fasion way.

Any help is appreciated!!!

As far as I can tell, there are two numbering systems on each stick of RAM. One number is on a Compaq sticker that says 47085. Another Compaq sticker says 278030-002. These numbers are on the same stick of RAM. I also have another stick that says 278031-002 and on the other sticker 48085. Some others have the same long numbers on them, but the short number is different. Some include 48065, 47125, 87094, 47105. There is one that has 278029-002 and 091981 and 0V984402XH7 - I think is a strange one that might be an 8 MB. I also have some other ones that look old and have really long numbers on them.

Unfortunately those numbers will only make sense to Compaq, read the numbers on the ram chips not the stickers

Most don't have any other numbers. Some have numbers and letters on the actual chips, but those don't look familiar to me. - Example: HYB39S16800AT-10 and 9830. I have about 40-50 RAM pieces with tons of these strange numbers. I was trying to look up some site that had the Compaq numbers on it. One has Siemens HYS64V4120GU-10 4MX64 SDRAM (isn't this 64 MB???) Is there a way to count the chips on it? Some have chips on one side, some on both.

I think the HY means the chip was made by Hyundai, and the -10 means it's 10ns (PC66). Try here for links to ID the modules.

Take "guides", then "memory". I was wrong, it looks like the chips are made by Siemans. Do you have access to a computer you can set at 66 FSB and just see what they post at? It'd be a lot simpler that way.

I have about 50 sticks of RAM. That would take a long time to go through each one. Also, the computer I could test it on is my Quake III Arena server, file server, proxy server, and web server. I'd hate to have to take it down for several hours while I test these. I found some good information about RAM on that site, but none really had what I needed. If only I could find a site that listed Compaq part numbers and what they are. Compaq sure don't have something like that one their site (as far as I could see).

Does Kingston still list the Compaq numbers? They used to, so you could buy upgrades from them for the proprietary stuff.

I could find some, but no numbers with the numbers I have. This RAM came from Compaq Deskpro 2000 and 4000 models. They have about 20 2000 models on the kingston site and about 25 of the 4000 models. I looked at several and didn't find any familiar numbers. I also did a search by part number at this page - http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/kepler/partnum_Bod.asp - and didn't find anything. I searched Kingston part #, dist. part #, and mfr. equiv. part #. Still nothing.

Do a search on Google for the Compaq part number. The Compaq PN is the xxxxxx-xxx. Kepler will also have the answer.

I have only about 3 numbers with the Compaq part number in the format xxxxxx-xxx. I tried all of them on Google and found some pages, but most was not actually there.

Also, what or who is Kepler?

Kepler is a Kingston program that's cross referenced.

I downloaded Kepler and search for all the numbers I had. Nothing is in there for those numbers.

Do you have a board that will let you clock it at 66 FSB? Then you can just pop em in and see what they post as.

Found it in 30 seconds:
278030-002 is 32 megs.
278031-002 is 32 megs.

Thanks for the info. That's what I thought they were, but wasn't 100% sure. I have several computers here, but most are 100 or 133 MHz bus. One is at 100 (overclocked) and could be used at PC66, but it is being used all the time (Quake III server, file server, proxy server, web server). I'd hate to get that computer down for several hours while I test each one of these. Those two numbers account for about 20-30 sticks of RAM, but I still have about 20-30 others that have really strange numbers on them. I am not at the office now, and I will get the numbers and post them here when I get back. Some are listed earlier in this post.
